GPS Question

i would like to buy a gps for my bike but find it hard to justify the cost( and sneak it past the missus). what i was wondering, is there a gps available where you can mark multiple spots in a paddock and return to them at a later date. i spent a couple of days last week wondering around a 250 acre grazing block on my tractor spot spraying rats tail grass which is very hard to see at certain times of the year and you have to keep going back for years until you wipe out the seed. now,if there was such a device not only could i use it on my bike,but i could use it on the farm and claim it on my tax. cheers charlie. ps,mods if this needs shifting,go for it.

There isn't a GPS that won't do that mate.
They are called waypoints and even an el cheapo should do that.

Check the flea market .it often has gps machines.

+1 I have an Oregon 450 but I had my eyes set on a Montana for a while. Maybe I'll get it for my birthday.

Not having a crack mate.
Just saying that even a cheap handheld will store waypoints that you can navigate back to.
Of more importance for bike use is things like stored maps, waterproof and screen size etc.

Buying a GPS is a bit like buying a new phone, there are a zillion options, but you need to decide just what it is you need, then the suitable ones rise to the surface.

How's your eyesight? If you have good vision, especially at reading distances, a smaller screen may not be a problem. Reliability? Waterproofing? Internal or replaceable batteries? Need tracks (a fair few don't support these)?

All these considerations have a bearing on what to buy. I recommend having a read of the GPS forum, GPS 101, ask a few questions, and don't rush your purchase. Feel free to pm me and I'll help where I can.

I would ride around while tracking the route, and when I found a spot that needed poison, drop a waypoint. Then when I was all done, email it to myself so it would be accessible next year when it's time to spray again, regardless of which device was smashed/working.
