I know. Me too. No matter how many times I remind myself that his name means "my mind is OK" all I can see is "my mind sock."

    An apology!! Nice try fella.

I wasn't aware of any long history of trying to stir things up with you. I remember asking for your advice on a couple of occasions and even thanking you for your contribution when the other guys were giving you a hard time.

The post above was in response to your perceived attitude to Moorespeed. You've had a dig at him on other posts for no apparent reason yet all he's done is offer information. Richie provides the engineering behind an awful lot more than the bikes on his site.

A duel sounds good though :turkish As the challenged I'd get to choose the weapons :evil

Yes he did clearly state that BMW GB was his source and I clearly stated that I hoped BMW GB was more reliable than BMW NA and then asked if he knew how BMW GB came to that conclusion.

Tell me how I "demanded" an apology but use my words and not your own.

OK. Just to speed things along, lets stick to your short history of stirring things up with me.

Why don't you try asking me what my attitude is instead of relying on your own perceptions? Why accuse me of something that you have perceived like it is something I actually feel? I've had digs at him for no apparent reason?? Good questions are not digs! There are GOOD reasons for my questions. I would think Richie with all his experience would understand how some sources from even BMW AG can be suspect let alone one of the importers. I have no idea why he would take offense to telling the story like he eventually did? Except for all the drama, it all made sense to me after I heard the whole story.

So I guess you are not going to PM me about going on about your perceptions as if they were fact? Why am I not surprised? :rofl It's fine to talk about your feelings but you need to remember that they are YOUR feelings.

In some ways we should be happy that BMW is even attempting to keep making new parts for these old bikes. If the cams are made in China and they are no good, move on.

If BMW's suppliers makes MI's cams, great but that doesn't necessarily mean they are as good as what they were selling to BMW. Personally, I would look into getting one from BMW's original supplier if MI hasn't already done that.

336 specs are one thing but are the cams wear resistant like BMW's??

Plus, a lot of the 336's difficult part to grind doesn't even show in the specs for the cam lift check point.

A thought that rambles through this old mechanic's brain.

Several current bikes are having camshaft issues, KTM, BMW and the 4 valve Guzzi.

Consider... What happens to all that fine, hard metal swarf?
No, the filter does NOT get it all.

The most damaging hard debris in oil or air is <.002" and >.0005".
Valves and their guides are right next to these camshaft as the spit off these fine, hard flakes... Mmmm.
Con-rod bearings are next, then piston skirts & bore.. Well the bore might be uber-hard but not the skirt & rings.

Once wear sets in, oil throw-off from the rod's big-end hitting the wall of a worn bore/piston, combined with a loose intake guide, both permit oil to enter the combustion chamber=detonation. That's when the fun really :evil starts.

So these cams get replaced but 30k miles or so they engine runs sour and it all started with a crap cam.
