I love the xt.have ridden 2 k kms in 2 days.smooth as silk. Cruised the bitumin at 90 to 100 kms/ he from townsville to boulia.25 to 30 km/ ltr. Unleashed it on dirt. Plenty highway.loose sand, rocks, deep ruts filled with bull dust and huge corrugations.750 kms .relentless. only issue I had was the 2 bolts holding the silencers came undone and got 2 bolts from tobermoney station and tightened the other 2'as they were loose. As far as my opinion goes its one hell if an ADV bike when I get home 2 k kms more of desert ( am in Alice today) will get race headers,DNA filets and rally fairing. This bike is an adventure weapon! Post pics when I get home.
Welcome to the club SS. Best kept secret in ADV riding I reckon. Underrated more than almost any other bike.... Enjoy the rest of your ride home.
Are these Metalgear pads from Ebay OK? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MetalGea...orcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item257a1b09cd Alternatively, what's good online?
Hey Woop, You want the sintered compound for off road riding...sand, mud, dirt, etc, etc, which are about $10 dearer, Robo
reached home this morning . nearly 4k kms. one hell of a bike! yesterday morning to today morning -1600 kms in one day to reach home. never skipped a beat. and i am suprised at the suspension, hit a 2 feet by 1 foot washout and came out straight.(am only 65kgs) will post pics or do a RR tommrow after i get some sleep. what the journos have written is total bullshit. is there anyway i can cut open and 'empty' the insides to retain the OE cans but free them up?
Matty, Good to hear you have arrived home safely. Yes the XT is a great bike and I'm glad your enjoying it. You have inspired me, I've booked in for holidays at work today. Planning a loop around western NSW next month. Cheers. John
Well done mate, big effort. How did your arse cope on that seat? Wow I'm a fat fuck, I'm nearly double your weight. It's gunna cost me about $900 to get the suspenders fixed all round to accommodate my guts. Look forward to seeing some pics and a writeup. I haven't come across anyone chopping the XT cans, couldn't imagine it being to hard though. Oh also, mine is in for its transport inspection tomorrow, 11th April. Fingers crossed I've completed all the paperwork. Robo
SS, what bullshit that the journos write are you referring to? Good to see you had a great and safe trip. How did your mpg work out for the trip?
i was reading the review for the xt660r. how its not an easy bike and other stuff. http://www.mcnews.com.au/Testing/Yamaha/2009_XT660R/Yamaha_XT660R_Test.htm as the gearing is not very tall i found it cruised happily at 95-110 kmph. and it has loads of torque so its easy.at these speeds especially at a relaxed 95 on the back roads i hit reserve at 260-275 kms. so if i ride it relaxed i recon i could get 400kms out of the tank. if i nailed it on the dirt with shifting gears hit reserve at 235kms. still have 100kms. with 20ltr extra fuel i have depending on terrain 800-850kms of range. (love FI). Its got low end grunt that means it will crawl thro anything. my previous bike wr250r was spectacular but also revved high-10k rpm with a slick 6speed gearbox which meant i never cruised on it, i rode it like i stole it. i actually find the XT relaxing to ride and for the first time i looked around at the scenery.
plenty hway. camp 300kms from alice springs on the gary hway entering WA SANDY SWALES BETWEEN DUNES.(could nt stop in sand and take a pic so when i just got end of gary hway onto canning stock route
the wadshouts were huge and plenty.road from well33 to telfer. sand, loose gravel and megawashouts had a nap at nullagine dam for 2 hours waiting for roadhouse to open for 3 ltrs of fuel to get home was treated to this sunrise for my effort! and then nailed it to Newman to reach at 9am!
Hey SS, I shouldn't have read that. Now I've got the shits cos it wasn't me doing that ride. You sound chuffed with you Black pig, rightly so, it looks the goods to. I did a quick trawl around XT660.com and found this post to uncork the stock cans. Thanks for posting. Robo
Thanks Robo might decide what route I will take: in a few weeks. Maybe OTR racing headers as the B&B bash plate is configured for low pipes + delkevic end cans.or just simple Metal mule 2 into 1. Thinking DNA stage 2 filter to complement air flow.cheers
