I will probably be out on the GS this Superbowl Sunday as I am a sports illiterate. OK I said it. Am I alone or is anyone else afflicted with this? Haven't ever watched a Superbowl. Not interested in any sports well maybe scubadiving in the South Pacific but not on television. Some in my family live and breathe sports. They are nice people but don't have much of a conversation about anything dealing with sports. Looking at me like I have two heads is usually what I see. Well while everyone is watching TV on Sunday I will be out on the GS on Historic 89A in Northern AZ with some sunscreen, and very little traffic.
I'm totally with you. I've played sports my whole life, but watching them doesn't excite me in the least. I'll watch the superbowl, but only between stuffing my face, my beer and getting distracted on advrider. I argued a while ago that watching sports is only watching other people have fun; it's boring. You would have thought I spit on my buddy's mother, I got thoroughly chewed out for such a ludacris statement. I went to a Giants football game last year, but it did nothing for me. I will say, the only time I enjoy watching live sports is on a nice summer day at Yankee Stadium. The energy/atmosphere makes me happy, but I could care less about the actual game.
Went to Fenway Park when I was a kid. Nice colors and beautiful field great sunny day, Jim Lamborg(sp?) Carl Yazstemski were playing but after that nothing, it was a grade school field trip. Good hot dogs though.
I call it the Supper Bowl. I am going to my buddy's house just for eats and drink his beer. His wife is an awesome cook. I have no clue what teams and their colors are.
Stupiid Bowl Sunday is always a great day for non-sports people, as we have the whole world (America anyways) to ourselves! Used to be, I'd watch just to see the commercials but don't have to do that any more, so even better.
I'm the same way. I love to play sports but watching them bores me. I do not understand the fascination with knowing every player on your team. etc, etc There was a show about Bo Jackson's life and I thought it was pretty interesting how he did not enjoy watching sports. He talked about how his wife watches her favorite NFL team and makes him watch the first 15 minutes with her.
I'm with you.... Watching sports on TV is like watching paint dry... I honestly wish I could get into it... I've tried to watch.. but it just doesn't capture my attention for more than a few minutes... Outside of their families, the social lives of a lot of guys I work with seem to revolve around televised spectator sports.. nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned.. just not my bag... Its just like any other pass-time: it's something you do when you aren't working.. and something to talk about around water-cooler... Now.. if a vendor comes in with free tickets to the Sox, Bruins or the Patriots, I'll go every time.... That part of it I get... it's a fun night out and the energy of a rowdy crowd is great.... but on TV... it tough...
I've read somewhere that while football, baseball etc are "games", a "sport" is something that can kill you... That said, I like to watch the sport of motorcycle racing. If watching the Isle of Man TT doesn't get your blood flowing, you're probably dead!
I couldn't give less of a shit about team sports, games, whatever. Never have. My wife on the other hand is a football fanatic. I try to humor her if she wants me to watch the game with her, but I cannot get into it at all.
I couldn't care less about sports. I liked Paris-dakar ofcourse. And going to the soccer field to see your six year old kid going after the ball together with 19 other 6y/olds is very funny. But looking at sports is ultimately boring. As far as being active myself, I'm on a bicicle 3 days a week (total of 90 minutes), walk about 60 minutes. Just to get at work and back. Enough exercise for me.
I couldnt give a shit less about sports. I enjoy going to a baseball game when I get good tickets given to me and drink beer on a nice summer night and when the grand daughters are playing softball or volleyball I like to watch, but other wise dont give a shit. They could ban pro sports tomorrow and I wouldnt miss any sleep over it.
Most ball sports and the way they're broadcast are boring as hell anyway (even regular season broadcasts). Taking three hours for four quarters is asinine to me even if I was jacked up about one of the teams. Layer in the attitudes of some professional players off the field (or court) and you can color me disinterested. I hear its a good weekend to snag a deal on a TV. I'd opt for watching a good hockey game or reviewing a SBK, MotoGP, Dakar or the 24 Hours of Daytona race.
Too cold to ride and I'm a Baltimore fan, so I'll be watching the Super Bowl and cheering on the Ravens. I will agree it would be cool to have weather warm enough to go riding thou.......damm winter...who needs it....
another one here. being a non-follower of college football in the southeast US sometimes makes others look at me like I'm from some other planet or something. Most of the people I know spend their free time at the local watering hole in front of the tube watching uniformed thugs fight over an inflated ball of some shape or another. What's more, they wager their hard-earned money on who's gonna do better. (The local sports book dude stops in once a week with a pile of envelopes for the gang.) Ask these guys anything about the game they're watching and they'll rattle-off statistics going back decades yet they dont know who their elected representatives in government are. Kinda sad, this obsession with games. I like to have fun with it though. As a youngster, I followed sports and know a few things but have my bar-room sports dummy schtick down pat. I'll make an off-hand compliment about what a dynasty the brothers Eli and Clayton Manning are carrying on in quarterbacking. Or I'll ask a question about whether it would be a smart tactical move for one team or another to just cash-in their time-outs near the end of the game thus running down the clock, or when is the best time for a team to send in a pinch-runner to optimize a critical punt return. Some of my sport-minded acquiantences get impatient with my trolling but a couple of them appreciate the humor in it. If the weather is nice tomorrow, I'll be out chasing the white ball around the golf course and will stop in the local gin mill afterward to express my amazement that anyone is playing football. Hell, when the Packers lost their last game I just assumed football season was over.
I know people who schedule their lives around what games are on TV. I've tried watching, but find televised sports boring as hell. Being at a live game is fun, especially non-pro stuff. I really wish I lived somewhere with nice weather on Stupid Bowl.
