In Slovenija offroad is not legal, you can ride gravel roads (if there is no sign to forbid that) . Stay away from national parks (it's a big NO NO) .
It's very confusing what you can and what not, so I can't give you any usefull advices where to ride.
My friend reported on unpleasant encounters with forest guards (multiple in one day) .

    hey phil
i´ve been to croatia last september doing some trail riding. i used a roadbook by mdmot.com and can recommend it.
    http://www.mdmot.com/Offroad-Kroatien-GPS-Enduro.html
altough i think its in german only, you also get a CD with gps-tracks and POI in many different formats.

i also used sites like wikiloc.com to find a route from austria through italy and slovenia to croatia. there i found this report
    http://www.unpaved.de/4x4-kurztrip-slowenien-kroatien/
and the gps track for their trip
    http://de.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=4887230
this was very useful, its hard to find legal gravel roads in slovenia.

    cheers

sorry i can´t give you any gps data from croatia, but the guys at mdmot.com did put a lot of effort into making their roadbooks. it would´t be fair (and legal?) to post them everywhere.
    but, for a little teaser:

    Hello Phil,

I am chiming into the thread as we discussed together before by PM, we will be 4 riders from France on trail bikes going down to Croatia and Montenegro end of may/early June. We might ride together for some time?We plan Riding for 10 days, the trip planning is not fixed yet, we'd like to take some nice mountain offroad trails. I'm looking for roadbooks, cool ideas and have found several superb ride-reports here on the forum. We'll have to see if we can cross the Durmitor mountains in Montenegro early June because of the snow; it will depend on how harsh the winter will be.

@Seppo: thanks for the links and nice pix!

    Hi ADV67
I've arranged to meet another rider(Africa Twin) in Slovenia around the end of May but would love to hook up with you guys , i'll be on a XT660Z , a bit of a hand full but it'll be a laugh !!! :rofl

Took it to Maroc last year and taking it off road here in the Lot as much as possible but have a DR650 and a DR250 which are much more suited.

What you guys riding ? I fairly experienced off road (well a bit of a nutter) and would like to push the Tenere to see what it and i can do !!

the XT660Z works great on the Balkans, has the same weight as the BMW Dakar.
You start in Villach so you will have twisty and gravelroads at the begin

If you are going in direction toward Kočevje, look for "Mašun" or "Jelenov Žleb" , you have plenty of gravel around those places.
