Hey Lowgman, look for a 50 year old idiot on a Suzuki at Goodwood. Or two.. hoping to find a teammate. The Finn I was planning to ride with can't make it this year.

OK, better start getting some planning done.

Tweaking the route. I have time limits and need to keep the Visa side simple.

~ 6000 miles. Not sure yet whether to drop down into Kstan.

You should go down to Romania and then back up by Moldova/Transnistria. As for Kaz, its harsh, unpredictable and melting hot..but the people are legends. You should definitely go through there. Visas are not that expensive and just order a double entry Russian.

Did the rally in 2013 on a Honda c90.

Thanks Nomadic. What visa type did you apply for (do the bike details have to be recorded with the Visa application?)

    Hey Oscar!

Ulan Bator. It's notional, the Rally isn't really a race. The finish line could be the start line for something else...

Sorry, I mean where's the start line?
    It is obscured.

There's more than one bloke on a motor bike isn't there?
    Of course it's a race.

Richard, I will be passing over your mapped route north to south twice during July.

I am doing Helsinki to Tuscany and back with three weeks in a villa hiking in the Cinque Terre. Six or seven weeks total on the road. Definitely in the early days of your tour we will be crossing each others path in Germany I think if I don't get going too early. Let me know your route as you know it, maybe we can arrange a common city for a night and catch up?

I will be either alone or with another adv person from Sweden.

That sounds like an excellent ride Mike. Via the Tyrol?

Sounds like a plan. I'm planning a stop near Frankfurt to catch up with a couple of old KSA contacts who are back in Germany. AS&P and B&G.

Should be there 21st July. Hopefully the hangover the next day will be chased away with a good German breakfast.

Best of luck with the trip - the good news is that it can be done (and indeed has been done !) on a VanVan 125

One of our customers finished the Mongol Rally 2013 !

Sounds like a plan. It might be that I will be in Tuscany at that time but I will keep this in mind.

Exact route not clear for me yet. I am thinking of planning a couple of routes and then figuring out which one has the best weather at the time of the ride. Something more west (Black Forest/Alsace and into Italy via western Switzerland) or more directly south via Bavaria. Who knows? That's half the fun. :D

All I know is I have 15 days to get from Stockholm to there...so let's see where the road leads.

For Kazakhstan?? just a tourist visa was required, they temporary import your bike when you arrive - 90days if I remember correctly. In Russia its a little more complicated. The reg no. will be required when applying for the Auto-Tourist type of visa. Be careful with this part, it can be tricky. Our invitation letters didn't include our bikes and when we went to get a visa in Dublin/Tbilisi/Baku/Astana/Almaty it was a resounding "NO" from the bastards.

    Thanks Nomad

Unfortunately had some bad news about a family member this week so this is being shelved until 2015.

    Hey,
I am looking for a group to do the Mongol Rally with (car or possibly motorcycle). I'm 28 male with a mech eng background and experience working on cars and motorcycles. I got my first motorcycle when I was 18 and crashed it shortly after; I now like slower bikes and a bit more risk averse. I'm from the Boston area but I live and work in Norway. I was originally signed up to do the rally with a buddy but he is watching too much news and just now realizing that there can be risks driving from London to Mongolia (understandable). I am pretty flexible with the route; I am getting my double entry visa for Russia processed as we speak and I can get a visa for Kazakhstan, Turkey and the other 'Stans if needed. I am planning on buying a plane ticket to get home 30 of August. Please drop me a line if you want to talk more or have a suggestion on where I can find other rallyers. Thanks!

    Hello,
I just registered for the 2015 Mongol Rally. It starts on the 19th of July 2015 in London. I'll be riding a Honda XR 125 CC through England (London), France, Belgium (where I live), Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus, Russia, Kazachstan and Mongolia. I was wondering if anyone on this forum is also serious about doing this trip?

You can find my facebook page here.
