Day dreaming of a side car setup. Please post a picture of your setup, with initial cost of bike plus cost to add/build side car. Curious how cheap (or expensive) a decent sidecar setup can be? Don't need stories or heavy details.
2011 GS-Adventure: 21K + 5K of Farkles = 26K DMC-created sidecar: 13.5K shipping 3,200 miles (each way) to and from DMC: 1.8K ______________________________________________ taking my 81 year old dad for a ride this past father's day PRICELESS

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a really nice rig. BMW R1200 CLC Hannigan Classic Sidecar Bought used with 13K miles $11,500
OK, you said decent, so this won't really apply, Cost of non-running rig with locked up motor and burnt wires, 1500 parts, tires, lots of cans of Krylon, etc.... About 6-7 hundred. Yes.... I get my bikes off the clearance rack.
2007 Vstrom, bought new in 2008 for $8,000 out the door. 2011 Home built sidecar, cost to build about $1,200 AND over 100 hours of my time, and still counting !! ( they are never really done !! ).
I must be from a different planet... but bike+side car = crappy car exposed to elements; and all that for $40k? :eek1 Call me crazy, but I don't get it. Flame on. Someone please clue me in...
Soooo, what did you think people on this forum do? It is called hacks for a reason. Why would anyone try to explain their purchases to you? if you're not into them, you're not.
Ride a properly set up rig for MORE than 1 hour ( a week or two should do ) and you will understand OUR madness !!!.
I still don't understand my madness....... I am drooling over these GS rigs, but the RPOC fits my budget and the past 8500km have been a blast!
No need to feed the troll, hackies. Some people have deeper pockets than others, some people like different set-ups. It's what makes the motorcycling world wonderful. I will never hold a rider's choice of bike/combo/equipment/attire/money spent against them (short of flip-flops and shorts on a motorcycle). Some people like to detest and ridicule what they don't understand; I believe the term is "ignorance." Let's get back to our hacks! <steps off soap box>
2007 DL1000 $8500.00, Built from scratch sidecar chassis including single sided swing arm $2500.00, camper sidecar body $1000.00, assorted accessories hmmm.....aaaah.... sheeet I have no idea. Cost to finish? no idea, not even close yet As every sidecarist will understand. Those who don't ride 3 wheels or don't get it.....go home.
2007 Triumph Bonneville = $7,800 1972 American Spirit, Spirit Eagle car = $600 Paint, misc fittings, farkles = $700
no flaming but.... what do you mean "crappy car exposed to elements?" there is NOTHING "CRAPPY" about MY rig also... what i spent on my rig is no secret folks know what these things cost and people are aware that i hacked a brand-new '11 GS-Adventure why? because i wanted to and because i've worked 100 hours/week for decades to be able to do so i provide for my wife and daughter... and still could afford to do so not that i have to justify it to anyone but, you DID ask
