So growing up in So Cal, trips to Baja were a pretty regular thing. Load up the car with food, surfboards and friends and head south. It was always easy to find a place to camp, buy cheap beer and have a great time.

As life got more complicated the trips to Baja became fewer and fewer. And then at the end of last year I was invited on an epic big bike journey of 5 days in Baja. Epic in that it started with 10 riders and ended with 2. As the caretaker at Horsepower Ranch told us on the last night of the trip when it was just 2 of us, "this is Baja". I am solidly hooked now and have made several more trips since.

There is a solid group of guys in OC that are on it as well as a solid group in San Diego that have it figured out as well. We recently got back from another great trip and it's time to add to the Regional Forum a Baja Adventure Riders thread.

Here's hoping to see and hear about past and future Baja Adventures!

Here are some quick shots from our last trip that took us on a great route that included a bike race from Rosarito to Ensenda, riding the beach, finding a new surf spot and a challenging ride to Mike's Sky Ranch.

We had a solid group of riders and a good time was had by all

I want to do that. Looks like a good ride for the Transalp. My MIL has a place about 25 miles south of San Filepe right on the water.

That place wouldn't be at Gonzaga Bay would it? I have some great tracks from Mike's Sky Ranch to Gonzaga Bay with a lunch stop in San Felipe.

Let's go, would love to see the Transalp on a Baja Adventure.

Nope. Gonzaga Bay is about 50 miles further south. Campo Jimenez.

    Baja realllllllllllll good!

    Great idea for a thread!

Did it on a multi time per year basis in the late 80's and most of the 90's with and without motorcycles and without and without surf and sailboards. Still pretty awesome, but my last trip down in 2010 cemented my belief that it's just not the same anymore since so many paved roads have been put in and you can find a big vacation development in all of the best old locations.

Still looks fun, but ......I'd rather spend my time on my little bike doing 80 mile really hard days in the Sequoias or Sierras on goat trail ST, instead of 300 miles of desert and wide foothill roads with a little beach run thrown in.

Have to admit, I still miss the tacos and beer though south o the border.

The Simpson Trail into Mike's isn't single track, but challenging all the same. Rob is right, lots of stuff getting paved but there's still plenty of adventure.

Last time down I met a retired fire fighter who cashed in and lives in TJ. I called him out on being crazy for all the typical American reasons and he says to me he is living more free than he ever did in the states. He summed it up with, "less security and restrictions equals more freedom. Works for him but I'm not moving to TJ anytime soon. Still riding dirt bikes or big adventure bikes on the beach or across some ranch land is pretty cool. Wonder what would happen if I went tearing across Huntington or Irvine Ranch on any of my bikes?
