Need a favor please. Short story is we are in the middle of a fork replacement on a salvaged 2013 800GS. To make sure we get the ride heights correct (using a different fork) just need the total fork height of an 2013+ 800GS. Need the distance from center of axle to top of upper fork tube. Of course the fork needs to be uncompressed so make sure it is on the center stand and front fully extended. I'll take it in inches or mm, but if someone could take 30 seconds to take a tape measure and give us this dimension that would be helping a fellow a guy out a lot. Thanks!
230 mm front fork travel - this is from the top of my head, when I measured it for a shiver conversion. edit: I see you want the specs for a 2013+ model. Disregard me please
sarathmenon, Thank you for responding. But what I need is the TOTAL length of the entire fork. In other other words from the center of the wheel axle all the way up to the top of the fork tube at the top triple clamp. Full extended (on the center stand, lifted off the ground). The 2013+ are a different fork (43mm WP) and so really want to get that dimension to be dead-on.
My front wheel is off And the front forks are hanging. Alas, it's a toss 'Cause it's an '09ing. (Isn't that awful? Sorry.) Fred
Fred, Hey, I'll take that measurement on your 09 as well. Be interesting to compare anyway and see if they changed this in 13+.
Aww shit, Finn! I went out to the garage to measure when I was reminded that to accommodate my short inseam, I modified my suspension! 895mm if it matters. Fred
I can do this for you when I get off work today in about 4hrs.... I have a 2013 with stock suspension. Im tracking what you need, center of axle to top of fork. No problem.
Not sure if it is of any interest, but I have a complete 2013 front end (forks, triples, clamp, handle bars) sitting in a box, came off the bike less than 150km from new.
Fred, Excellent! That helps a lot. My bet is the 2013+ are the same and would still like to confirm that. gspirate? The KTM 4860 fork we are putting on are currently at 935mm total length, BUT they are also 280mm (11") travel. We are spacing them off to bring them to around 255mm (10") travel. So 935mm - 25mm = 910mm total length. Perfect FYI: we are upping the travel to 10" (stock is 9.1") to help offset the 18" wheel upgrade to the back (raising back). So this is all good news.
Just measured my 2013 while on the center-stand with front wheel hanging. I get exactly 36" from the center of the axle tube to the top of the hex cap. Hope this is what you need.
Fin, Sorry I measured when I got home then got caught up in the whirlwind that is my 2yr old son... I got 36" which according to Google is 914.4mm Thats on the center stand with back pulled down to get the tire up. Really sorry for not posting last night.
gspirate and TK-421, Thank you for the measurements. Pretty much finalizes this and let's us proceed. Bottom line looks like total shock length is the same even though they changed fork in 2013+. And the WP4860 conversion can be done and keep (near) stock ride heights. Thanks guys, great to see all the help and so quick.
On the weekend I can measure if you are still stuck. Its in storage. Send me an email or pm me. I have it spare because I did a 48mm conversion...
Hamish, Appreciate the offer and will still take the data, but I think we are good. Question: what was your final opinion on the 48mm conversion? (I assume you mean the KTM 4860 fork)
