Greetings, Was ready to pull the trigger on buying a new DR650SE and was supposed to pick it up on Saturday. Before sealing the deal made one last trip to all the bike shops and found a gorgeous matte green 2013 XC. Thought about it overnight then emailed the dealer the next morning and he accepted my offer. Pick it up tomorrow. Looking forward to learning about the bike and how to farkle it to death.
Well done, I've had mine (same colour) for a couple of months and have spent far to much money on it but broke my ankle last week so no riding for 6 weeks.
Whopping step up. From mild to wild. Hope you have some seat time prior. Definitely not a beginner bike.
A little seat time, been riding since 1972 or so and also own a 2012 Kawasaki Concours 1400. So I should be able to handle the XC:) I have a Givi V46 Monokey Topcase mounted on the rack of the Concours. Does anyone make an adapter so I can pop this on the rear rack of the XC?
I have the Altrider one, it's compatible with Givi and can also mount a Rotopax to it. I'm happy with it.

Altrider Rear Rack without Givi mounting kit: With the mounting kit: With Givi topcase: And in use with full set up:
Do these grips require unusual modifications to fit the XC? I would love a fatter grip as I have XL hands. Thanks,
There are little plastic tabs on the throttle assembly that fit in the stock grips that you can just razor blade off. I also used the pro taper grip glue but thats the extent of it...
Not arguing, but just curious as to why? It's my first bike and 8 months later I'm still loving it! Tho I'm also old enough that I don't feel the need to ride the thing WFO.
I open it up a LOT. It flat f'ing flies. It's not that a noob couldn't ride one, they are not difficult to ride. But it has enough performance to put a rider in the ditch. Easy. We had a noob at the DV rally earlier this year and I cringed when they said he was going to be riding a new tiger on our dirt routes. Sure enough, he broke his ankle. I was on my TE, wouldn't think of taking my Tiger out there. Noob - just ballsy enough to go out and break their leg. That and 475lbs is no 'lightweight' learner bike. I just don't think it's the right bike for a noob. My son is a very competent rider and I wouldn't think of putting him out on the hiway on it without some time on a smaller bike. I've been riding for over 40 years and ridden all manner of motorbikes and the XC still thrills me.
