Is there that much difference between the 606 and the T63's? They look about the same. I know both of my tires need changing for this sort of riding but I also commute on the bike and it's all pavement. I doubt I'll be in the muddy stuff all that much really so I kinda want tires that do well on the road.
You just made up my mind that I need to get away from the computer for an hour or two and visit the dirt near here. Thanks for being bad influences.
absolutely will as long as my phone stops ringing with people bugging me, I should be out the door at 3pm then I'll add to the little video library of roads I've been making
If you post it up stick a link on here so I can view it. I'd be interested to see what I missed while I was down in that area so much the last 8 months.
just go on youtube and look up the user wingnutthecat I've been throwing them up there (wingnut is our 21 year old cat's name) the first one from today is going up now, they take hours to upload unfortunately today I mainly stayed on pavement as my rear tire is just about gone
Damn, what happened? Did the bike just slip out from under you Lethe? Had to laugh when you got up and said "OK, time to go home". Now why couldn't I find roads like that down there when I was out scouting? I knew they existed, just couldn't find much. Thanks for sharing the vids. Hope you were ok after the fall.
It was a 50 degree day but it was single digits just a few days before so there was still ice around I was fine, the bike broke the shift lever though, no big deal. I rushed home, cut that video down to just the wreck and threw it right up on youtube That's Upper Woods Road north of 371, it turns into dirt about a mile north of 371 with a lot of offshoots that I need to go back and check out. Yesterday I did the south part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyTWiyBuUQI&feature=youtu.be Weekends are usually pretty open for me (I do know the upcoming one isn't though), I'd be happy to meet up somewhere and show you some of this. I'm still finding some as prior to getting the KTM I mostly avoided the dirt roads
I don't get down that way anymore. I was dating a woman down that way but that's over. I loved riding down there though and I imagine I'll be heading down periodically to do weekend rides once the weather breaks and I can do some camping. There's a lot I didn't have a chance to explore down there.
Great pics and great thread. I live just south of Tannersville off of PA715. I just started riding last year, and only got about 2500 miles on my new/old airhead. This season it will see many more miles, both paved and not so much. I'll have to come back to this thread and post up some pics of some dirt/gravel a few minutes from my house.
Sure, now that I'm no longer involved in the Delaware region all you guys start showing up. Where were you when I needed you dammit? Back on page 2 or 3 there are some pics from your neighborhood Jim. Not sure what the name of the road was but it turns west off 715 just south of T-Ville and turns from pavement to dirt in a few miles. There's a memorial to some kid that was murdered by the stone bridge crossing the creek. I did find a power line to ride out that way but I couldn't go very far on it.
Nice photos. I grew up in Apalachin and have been riding those parts for years. Though I now live a bit north, I have two good riding buddies who live in the Vestal/Apqalachin area. One drives either an xt600 otr a Dr650, the other a Honda XR 650. I drive a DRZ myself. Next time I pop down that way, I'll let you know, so we can see if your up for a ride.
By all means. I'm always up for a ride. I have my kids every other weekend though so those weekends are out.
I well recognized the old one room school house on 715 that you posted a pic of. It is right near Sunset Hill. The road you turned off of heading west from 715 may have been Mountain Road. Did you turn by a church? Pass the Mountain Road Feed Store? I live in an old farm house on a small side road off of Mountain road, so you passed within a half mile of my house. The dirt/gravel section is part of Hypsy Gap road, and cuts through the State Game Lands. The memorial you saw is for Lee Van Luvender. Lee was shot during hunting season by an unkown person about 3 years ago. There is a $10k reward still offered for info leading to the capture of his murderer. My oldest son went to school with Lee's youngest sister. Where I live is a pretty close-knit area. The invasion from NY that occurred after 9-11 has changed much of the region.
Yeah, those were the roads I was on. I got a bit of the story on the murder from my ex GF. I had given some thought to moving down there, I really like riding around there, but all the city refugees made me think twice about it and I decided that although the area is beautiful many of the refugee's are not. Lots of foreclosures and vacant homes there though and that had my curiousity peaked for awhile. Unfortunately many of the homes were slapped together on the cheap (I think they call it Pocono Crappy construction) and they aren't worth even the lowest foreclosure prices. Finding a well built house seemed to be a bit of a challenge.
OK, it's time to get some more pics for this thread. Just finished a 2 week trip to the Smokies and Ozarks but did that on the Tiger (there's a RR here somewhere). From here on I'll be paying more attention to the DR. I ride it daily but haven't been away on it since last fall. Heading down to Allentown tomorrow, hopefully finding some dirt along the way, and then camping somewhere after I'm done with demo day at Hermy's Triumph/BMW/Husky. Feels great to be taking the DR again. It's packed and man, those HT panniers hold a ton of stuff... All my camping gear including my chair fit in one pannier! No need to use the dry bag with this setup.
5 1/2 hours to get from Binghamton to Allentown...ya, thats about right. No dirt but found some new back roads I haven't been on yet. Tried to pump some bargain gas but the place was closed, hmmmm... Going to Demo Day at Hermy's Triumph/BMW/Husky tomorrow. I'll post a few pics of the new Explorer.
Got to Hermy's first thing this morning ready to start demo rides, only problem was it wasn't demo day, it was just an open house I did get to ride one of these though and that was fun... Nice but I think if I had to pick I'd buy that white Tiger 800 behind it. I really liked that when I rode it last year and who needs 1200cc anyhow. Cool... Way too tall... My buddy Jon on his VFR 800 (98), also cool... Then we went to do a test ride on one of these... Not so cool. I was never more askeered in my life. Twitchy little bastards in the turns. I laughed most of the way but in a "I'm going to die sort of way. I don't believe they put inexperienced riders on these things. Thanks but no thanks.
Was that explorere the one with Georgia plates? If so that was there on Tuesday when I was there getting my first service done on my F800GS. They had a blue Explorer in the showroom that day as well.
