WRR: One Moto. One Dude. One Love

So I just bought another WRR to replace my first one which goes to show you how much I like this bike. The first had about 22K on it before it was stolen and halfway into ownership, I alway wanted to do a thread to document my experiences with it as well as the rides I've taken it on; it's my main ADV bike and one I plan to keep indefinitely.

I know theres the mega thread, but well, it's mega. And I hate creating new thread for questions or opinions that I can't find through ADV or the interweb.

And why is it the one?

Sorry forgot to elaborate, its a Yamaha WR250R Dual Sport model.

Its the one because it's style and substance. It's got a work smart play hard philosophy that makes sense to me.

This past winter, I went through all the possibilities for a new bike. I thought about a GasGas 300 2t, or maybe KTM 150 2t. Or how about new KTM 350 exc. No KTM 250 xcf-w.

I was maybe looking for a bike that would do everything I aspired but decided to limit my scope to ADV, and wider single track. I really was angling for a street titled 250XC-F. For singletrack, and motocross.

You see, I was coming off the high of riding MX as during 4th of July weekend '12, I took the WRR to the MX track with my Go Race Suspension. The more I did it, the more hooked I got and the higher I flew bike... until during the middle of the afternoon, I crashed landed nose low at the tail end of a 30 ft tabletop jump.

Later found out I broke my shoulder, so that was the end of riding for 2012. Over Labor Day Weekend, the bike was lifted under the cover of dusk - thats NYC for you.

Had a lot of time to think about next bikes, and after entertaining all these aspirational ideas of moto and race bikes, it led me back to the WRR. I figured if I really was going to do moto, it would make sense to have a dedicated bike for the job - I think that was the main reason I crashed because I was pushing the WRR to the edge of its capabilities, and not prepping the bike by dialing up compression damping, removing the side stand, etc.

So I looked high and low and eventually found one at the far end of Long Island this past January. Promptly rented a ziptruck to go pick it up.

Anyone know what size this bolt is? Going through the bike, I discovered the brake switch housing is cracked.

I put out an order on an OEM Bikebandit, but they are currently backordered, so I'm thinking to use a hydraulic switch from DRC. Need to have the bike ready and inspected for the upcoming BBA ride in 2.5 weeks.

Is it an M10 x 1.25?


(UPDATE): Dug around and found the answer

Nissin Master Cylinders / Calipers are M10 x 1.25
Brembo Cylinders / Calipers are M10 x 1.0

Yep, thats the wr450f headlight with single HID set-up and matching fender. I've already installed it, but I can show you how it was mounted. Not hard to do at all really. I'm not a fan of the stock WR looks as evidenced by all these facelifts. Pictures to come.

Thanks Simon that's on my to do list hate the stock wr light too now I just need to source a wr450f cowl and light bet its going to be expensive uuuggghh

Where abouts in the berkshires did you go riding? Im in albany NY and looking for places to go.

New YZ fender and WR Headlight.

The top mounting points line up with existing mount bracket. I just needed to used a longer bolt and shim it about an inch on both side using some plastic spacers and a longer m6 bolt.





For the bottom mounting points, I had to make a bracket from a thick poly that spans the 2 stock mounting locations. Then drilled 2 additional holes and ziptied it to the holes on the cowling.



As you can see the YZ fender needs spacers to bridge the gap on the front (approximately 3/8") bolts as well as the rear.



I angled the spacers on the rear to roughly follow the angle of the fender.

Ive ridden one,they weigh only a bit more then my 530 and make how much power?

Im addicted to the 4th gear wheelies and perfect suspension right out of the box on the KTM's,but that IS a darn cute little bike you have there.
