This thing is excellant. I have mine set parallel to the main screen (GSA type) with the arms straight. The noise and turbulence have dropped off immensly. The touratech add on thingy was a useless annoyance this isn't. Realistically it still punches a narrow hole through the air, as such side winds etc are still there. Is it great? yup. For noise reference. The auto sound adjust on the scala kicks in around 30-40 mph it is now closer to 60. So that translates to noise and turbulence etc. I can run with the outer visor up for another 20 mph or so as well. I haven't tried to see how nice it will be with the Shoei. It's already way better in the crappy dual sport helmet used above. Oh the GS makes way different noises at way different times too. It's interesting how the "machine" noise is calibrated.
Awesome! How about some pictures? The first person to post at least two shots of the MRA X-Creen on their bike and the coolest shot I see will both get a free Twisted Throttle tee shirt. Kev
I think the MRA X-Creen is great. I had the Laminer Lip and there is no comparison. Please see attached file ( I hope it worked)
I've got an x-creen, been using it for a couple months and really like it. I noticed a few of you have said you have the "arms" positioned straight out. I've always just had mine positioned straight up...figured taller is better. Have y'all found that it works better if the arms are horizontal vs. vertical? It's late, did any of that make sense? Just curious...thanks
I'm 6'2" and find horizontal is much better than vertical. It makes the air smoother since a stream of air is formed between the two and the stream of air flows over my head. When I had it vertical it was much more turbulent.
Looks like we have a winner for the tee shirt. Now lets see some interesting shots from different angles. Kev
Thanks Henry, I'll give it a try today and see how it works Here are a couple pics, sorry it's not a GS but.... At first I clamped it on, I've since mounted it permanently. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
These were not taken to highlight the screen so I don't know how "interesting" they are, and its an old GS, but here's a few: This is the best small screen I've ever used. It takes a lot of fiddling, but after a day filled with starting, stopping, adjusting I'm getting a smooth, pretty quiet airflow. I've got it raked back fairly far to get clean air to the helmet and also get good airflow to the vents. It does a good job taking the pressure off my chest and therefore relieving the tension on my shoulders on long rides - which is what I needed since I was aggravating an old shoulder injury on my left side on 400 mile days when the bike was naked. I do wish I had ordered the longer arms. I don't need them since I've got it raked back so much, but there is room and its always better to have more options. I took a buzzard hit the other day (see the faceplants forum) and the shield took part of the hit. It moved it up and sideways several inches. Nothing broke. Tough shield. Other than the buzzard it moves a little on rough gravel roads, but is really very solid and moves very little.
any pics and a review of a stock GSAw windscreen with this device? I like this approch because any aftermarket windscreen that work are 4" higher. Now I run the screen all the way up, so any new windscreen will be a min of 2" taller. when running slow(er) on stone roads I usualy crank the windshield all the way down so I never attempt to look through it. with this device, I can lower it and not loose that low windscreen, but when I need it I can raise the screen and device. Can you adjust this on the fly with your hand or does it require tools?
I have just ordered one of these for my 2014 GSA - I'll post a review and some photos after a little testing.I had one before on my last bike (KTM SMT), hopefully this one will be as good.
Btw: I have the full windshield from MRA (MRA Vario Touring Screen) which I got from Twisted Throttle for my 2014 GS and have to say it's the best windshield I have tried in a long time. Definitely better than the GSA windshield I also have. The add on is nice, I had one of these and while it kind of worked, it was never as nicely integrated as the MRA shield. Mounting with the clamp made it so heavy that the shield was flopping around too much on my Tiger. Although I believe that MRA had various versions of the clamp. Don't know what the current one looks like.
Cug, do you have the plain windscreen or the one with the added top piece you can adjust? edit: Forgot, how tall you and what is your inseam. I am 6'0 with 31" insteam, using the factory low seat, high in front, low in back, but at times it has an air hawk on it.
The one with the adjustable lip. I'm 6', 34" inseam, seat in high front and rear and I generally sit fairly upright. There isn't that much difference between having the screen all the way down and all the way up. I use windshield support brackets on both sides.
Probably too late for the competition (but at least mine are 2 different photos!) Just fitted, not tested yet. On-road: Off-road:
As an FYI - this is the Vario-Touring version which is the original version of the X-Creen. The big difference with the X-Creen has more adjustability and two profiles. The Tour is a larger blade and the Sport is very similar in size to the Vario blade. Kev
Kev What ever it is it works brilliantly and looks a lot better than the Puig monster screen I had fitted before. Very happy with the new screen Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
How much taller is the Vario screen than the stock BMW screen? Are those side supports the ones from Mark Hooton in UK? I have a pair on order, but am still undecided on which screen to go with. I'm thinking the Vario Touring or the ZTechnik V Stream.
Yeah, they are the ones from England. Work absolutely great. I can adjust my screen easily while riding (down at least or up from the halfway point). Cruise control helps but isn't necessary ... I don't the think the Vario Touring screen is much higher than the standard, and it really doesn't need to be. It works really, really well for me. Better than the Adventure screen or the standard GS screen.
