Have you seen the shirts I drew for him? One is a toaster bike. One is of Rachel's bike. I am sure our paths will cross at some point. I'll be up there wrenching all day Saturday. I'll tell him you said hi.
I have both of them, and the mug and the rag haha. Take that Moto Morini from him, if it's still in the shop. He knows I want it.
Yeah the MM is sweet. Glad you're getting some enjoyment outta my drawings lol. Back to your regularly scheduled programming!
The r75 is super close to the first start up. The last order of parts is on it's way. I've been mega busy. Finally paved a ramp to the basement for the bikes: Rescued another golden retriever from the side of the road. It's A LOT like restoring a motorcycle....looots of money and looots of love. He's also the most amazing shop dog. Tank is done You guys saw the before pic of the tank. 15 years full to the brim with gas. It looked like the iron giant's butthole. Vinegar is amazing stuff :)
Put 200 miles on it this weekend. I should probably get the headlight working. The h4 one I have doesn't fit, it has 3 tabs around it that are in the way (probably from a later bike). Anyone have a spare turn signal laying around that they want to sell (just one, aluminum body with no reflector on the side)
She looks ashamed that she doesn't have a headlight. Like a character out of Brave little toaster movie. But really, great work. The Hale bros now ride matching toasters
^ Oh, that's so funny. I clearly remember looking through the guiness book of world records as a kid and laughing my head off at that picture. And then there was the picture of that Indian guy with the worlds longest fingernails. I bet a bunch of you all know just the picture I'm speaking of.
Congrats for your great job.. I am taking into consideration on installing the K70s also on my R75/5 and I was wondering if you kept the 3.25 size or you upgraded to the 3.50.. do you think it may fit? Thanks for your help!
Couldn't find it in my order but I'm pretty sure I stuck with stock size. You're talking about the front tire? Many around these parts will tell you that the stock size was very intentional and the bike geometry is designed to work best with that specific size. I'm sure the difference between a 3.25 and 3.50 is negligible. On a /5 it might fit fine. It would more than likely rub the front fender brace on my /6.
A lot of riders always wanted to use a bigger tire. I agree that the difference is probably negligible. The /6 fender brace was wider tho. At least the first year or two years. Up till 1975. But maybe 1976 too. I just don't remember which year the change happened. If you order a new fender brace from the dealer now thought they will give you the later, /7, brace and call it the correct part for the /6 because the book says it is so. It will fit unless you have too wide a tire that needs an original /6 brace. I have an original /6 brace somewhere but I think it's bent.
So I've been hunting down one last issue for a week now and no dice. I've checked and triple checked my wiring and it all seems to be in the right spot. Maybe you guys can spot something. My headlight does not work at all, low beam or high beam. The yellow/white wire going to the ignition switch terminal should be where it's drawing power but I can't get any voltage reading off of that terminal. All other posts on the ignition switch give me some reading and light up other gauge lights. I'm thinking the problem is there but everything looks pretty normal. My neutral light won't come on either, might be fixed when I figure out what's going on with the headlight... Bonus: Can you figure out what model this H4 headlight is from? Has 3 tabs around the rim that I'm not used to. It won't fit in the bucket with those tabs still there, wondering if it's worth cutting them off or sourcing a properly fitting light. Throwing this link in here so I can find it for future reference..it's just a /5 stat sheet that's really nice and detailed: http://web.eecs.umich.edu/~deroo/bike.dir/owners-manual.dir/techdata.html
I had one those headlight reflectors. It came with my bike. Someone told me they were a cheap and common H4 upgrade a while back. The tabs on mine were cut off. I ended up switching to an R65 reflector. The other one was too deep to fit with the keyed ignition switch mod I was using, but the other one would've worked fine if you don't have a problem with the missing parking light.
After reading that, I went ahead and shaved those tabs off and it fits perfect. Just need to get some clips to keep it in there. Anyone have any ideas about my above post? I still can't hunt it down. My turn signals have now started to act up. One side stays solid, the other used to blink but won't any more. I might pick up a generic flasher relay and try it but I hear that usually is not the issue.
Have you confirmed that when you turn your ignition to the right, the metal is creating a closed circuit?
I've noticed the signals on my /5 don't blink unless the revs are up. They stay solid when I'm sitting at a light or whatever.
A while back I changed the fork fluid and the right side didn't drain. After finally riding the bike, I noticed the right fork was pretty much seized, so off with the forks! Turns out one of the rubber bumper rings had completely turned to sand and gunked everything up. On with new seals, rubbers, crush washer and tiny piston rings (for the fork.) Eagle one mag wheel cleaner (with the etching component) works pretty well on the casting for the forks, specifically. Next up was braided fuel line. The cheap stuff you get at auto stores is terrible. Get the legit BMW braided line. I used an inmate's suggestion of a quick whack with a sharp chisel then burned the edges slightly. Very neat and tidy. Also figured out that the terminal on the ignition board where the headlight plugs into was not getting proper power. I haven't dismounted and cleaned it yet, I just temporarily ran the headlight cable to the ignition coil terminal on that board. Now the light comes on when the key is in, without turning. I kind of like that anyways. Back on the road and just balancing carbs and find tuning. Head bearings cleaned and repacked as well. I don't get to see this view too often. Nothing else left to do other than put some miles on it and maybe hunt down why the neutral light isn't working. Btw, engine 10w40 oil seems to be working great in the forks. Thanks, Fred Looks like I'm moving back to working on the r90 and getting it running properly. I'd love to trade it for a /2
