Tonight I learned my grandfather who put his his life on the line battling oppression and ignorance in WWII on the shores on Normady is laying in a bed dying.

Tonight I solute him for our freedom, his courageousness, his unrelentlessness to ensure that freedom is there for US!

Please hang in there "Grandpa Mac". We need you...... :cry

Bob, sorry to hear this, hope things improve. Sounds like you need to go for a ride to get your mind off things.

my grandfather passed away last year.. retired colonel from the AirForce.. Was a navigator in the war and flew quite a lot of missions. At his funural there was the full gun solute, etc at Forest Lawn in West Seattle..

Feel for ya Bob, it was a tough time for me last year... as I was the oldest grandson I got the fishing trips, tractor rides, etc.. as you've often sent the same invitation, you know i'm always here for an ear..

We should be thankful to all veterans who have served this country no matter what war or conflict they were involved in.

My father who is 85 served and fought in Europe from D-Day through the end of the war and still remembers the horror of combat and the men who died there.

Veterans...Stand Tall...I for one salute all of you!

kind of long but worth it.....

coming home on my first leave after boot camp, it was Xmas and the plane home was full. Since I was young and in uniform the flight attendants figured I was the most agreeable to change seats.... they asked me to change 3 times before we took off. The last time though, I passed an old guy in the isle, tall, grey hair, WWII bomber jacket and hat...." hello young man...thank you", "not a problem" was all that was said.

I sat next to his wife who informed me of why her husband needed to change seats. He was a B25 or B17, can't remember, pilot and was shot down over Germany. He spent 2 years as a POW where he was beaten so badly his ears were extremely damaged and now sensitive to noise.....to the point of shear agony and tears. We talked about his experiences, the nightmares, the ordeal. As we were landing I said " tell your husband thank you as I would not be where I am today without him" She said " why don't you tell him yourself"

As we deplaned and I could see all my friends and family's smiling faces at the gate(when you could still do that) I stopped and waited for the old guy. He was almost the last person off, my family was like "WTF we haven't seen you in a year....."

I told him thank you, I told him how much of a hero he was to me. I told him that everything he suffered through was worth it....

I brought him to tears, he couldn't speak. Covered his eyes crying and moved to the side. As he gathered himself his wife said to me "no one in 50 years has ever thanked him, thank you" He shook my hand profusely, smiled, thanked me over and over.

I consider this one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life

Thanks to all the brave men and women for their service to our country. We are losing at the ballot box what they have paid for in blood.
