Motorcycle riding is all about balance. On the Dakar, it is precisely the delicate balance between attack and restraint that must be found. Xavier De Soultrait gave it plenty in the patience department in his first participation last year (34th), but now he is well decided to take more chances to join the battle at the top as quickly as possible. “In my first Dakar, the goal was to finish the race and finish in the top 50. That's done, and I certainly learned a lot. But I know that this year I will be better equipped to show what I can do, with the bike that Despres and Pain rode last year. I'm going to say this before Robbie Gordon says something stupid and makes an ass of himself.

He really has a good shot this year, and I would like to see him win.
He has plenty of experience by now, too much even. It's safe to assume that car is sorted and he even adopted that crazy method of preparation and planing in advance.
Peterhansell is on dubious machinery and Robby has proven that he can beat Minis.
Hopefully he'll find a co-pilot that can stand him, do the job and balance out the loon.
