Figured I'd get the WARPED VII ride report started. The bike's all packed and I'll be outta here at 0800 tomorrow. Ben Carufel better not be late . . . :ddog :fyyff
Bike's all packed, where the helll is Ben Carufel . . . There he is, right behind me for the slab up the 15... Then up the 395 . . . And onto Caliente Bodfish!! More later Family time now!!!
I didn't take any pictures on my ride there. 300 miles of mostly back roads, santa cruz to hollister to 25 to los gatos creek rd to 198 to 65 to 190 to old stage rd to 155 to lake isabella. had a great time meeting up with all kinda people I hadn't seen in awhile, consumed way too much IPA. woke up saturday feeling the worse for wear, so after a couple ibuprofen, and a bunch of strong(!) Yemen Mocha, and a half gallon of water, I only took a short ride, started up Caliente-Bodfish and turned up Breckenridge Rd. 8 miles of dodging sand, rocks, mud, and find, ooops.... so hang out and stretch, then turn around and head back down. anyways, back to the kernville, dawdled over a iced coffee and veggie sandwich at a local cafe, then head back to camp.... nice nap set me up for the evening.... after dinner, gerg holding forth and much benchracing distribution of swag
I'll do my report later, but FIRST! 394 miles later after I am home. I kept Burnzilla on track as he was recovering from duck hunting with a rake last night. Sadly, we did have just one meeting with one of these Jacko's enroute home; Thanks to the guy who killed all the strippers and saved their silicone for our WARPED mugs. Those are, as Joe from SF says 'Sick' Thanks to all who did shit and helped out. The rest of you who just show up year after year and never volunteer to organize or help @ the event; Yeti, your organizational skills suck balls. You are FIRED Gerg; you drove to WARPED, so your sole purpose is Beer, ice , beer ice, repeat. But you still posses the TRUE spirit of ADVENTURE RIDER....so your excluded from further mockery on my part. As always, GREAT seeing you. For those of you riders who RODE their bikes to this event Next year I will have these to hand out to the appropriate candidates: For the rest of you; [EDIT] who TRAILERED your STREET LEGAL 650cc+ bikes to a 2 day EVENT: THESE are for Please man the fuck up and ride to an ADV event. IF you want to trailer to a motorcycle event, please join this crowd. and finally. ShortFatSally & MsBianca, it was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU BOTH. I really hope you both had a good time (outside that bullshit where Sally fell asleep in Richard Cabesa's tent, leaving him only a banana and $1.86 in loose change this morning)
There is something special about the light above the stove. Since I was a kid, seeing that light on early in the morning has always given me butterflies. It was the light that was used when you needed light in the early morning hours, but you didnt want to wake anyone else up. It has always represented some type of adventure even if was something as simple as getting up before dawn to go help my dad load wood or getting up at 3 am to go surf the waves so large that not everybody goes home that day. For me its always represented a different kind of butterflies. Its the kind of butterflies you get when youre going to do something that necessitates getting up hours earlier that youre comfortable with. The kind of butterflies you get when doing anything that requires hours of preparation and research that have to be done days before you leave. Seeing light above the stove on for me has almost always been a good thing and on Friday morning, I got up at 3.30am to get out of Los Angeles before the sun came up. I made it to the Poppy Preserve before dawn, but unfortunately the poppy display was not what it was last year .. So I took off and headed toward Frazier Park. Halfway there, the temprature plunged into the 20s and I promptly turned into an ice cube. I was very much looking forward to the Screeching Squuriels wood burning stove . But they were closed . BUT . This place was open . .and they had these . I had a cup of tea and it would have be downright insulting had I NOT purchased at least one doughnut .. from there I left Frazier Park it was a gorgeous day Out on to the Carrizo Plain, I was finally alone! I noticed this water tank . . And something on the side Happy Easter! Carrizo Cruising Here is where I write about Bakersfield; It sucks and there is traffic. Oh and people dont like it when you lane split through it. So Bakersfield piss off. Through Bakersfield, I made my way over to Breckenridge road because I had read about it on the WARPED thread. It was incredible up there . And again all alone Its quite a road . and there was still some snow left up there! I was thinking about bringing a snowball with me to throw at Yeti . But then I remembered he had my shirt so .. I was happily plugging along and the GPS told me that I was only about a mile or two from Caliente/Bodfish so I was almost off of Breckenridge. Then I came around a corner Three feet of snow . EASY. dammik!! The guy in the 4x4 was having issues getting out . So the GS certainly wasnt going anywhere. So I rode all the way back to Bakersfield and back up 178. Lame. Anyways . Camp. Good times around the campfire as usual. Next day staging. DaFool - SMILE CHARLES! Perfect day to ride .. A few of us headed out to Jawbone It always amazes me that people dump trash out here We had been waiting for awhile and Brice went back to check on Karen and it tuned out that she had gone down badly at about 50 mph breaking something in her foot She was determined to ride her bike out but first she insisted on walking a few hundred yards of sand . So we turned around to help Karen get home. Keil turned up and company and Burnzilla the quote man himself!! On a mans bike in the sand Brice walking back to his bike On the way back we saw Zilla heading through the water Dont get yer feet wet . after we got back we made sure Karen was comfortable with cookies and ice and checked out the top of the hill Dinner that night was a blast. I met lots of people that I had not known until now and had a chance to hang out with lots of old friends. Every time I make it to WARPED I always meet great new people and remember how many friends are there. This is a great annual gathering that we need to keep going at all costs!!!! Goodbye Kernville .. well be seeing you next year .
well, I was 8 miles from Bodfish-Caliente when I hit this... about a mile from the top. I could have gotten past that tree, but no way I was going around that gate. I'm guessing you were 2 miles or so from that gate.
videos soon and pics sooner of us riding our dirtbikes that we trucked in.:dllama just over 100 miles total in 3 days of riding real trails. thanks again to Yeti and crew for another great WARPED ! ! ! ! ! ! ! if your bike is over 600 cc's or has more than one cylinder, STFU about the trailering. if i wanted to ride the streets of Kernville, i would have rode my street bike up to the event.
whatever it was - I was close. A not exactly happy at the prospect of having to go BACK to Bake-o....
But something is better than nothing right? So other than seeing a lot of we did a lot of this... <iframe src="https://api.smugmug.com/services/embed/1265135116_55JxqFF?width=320&height=240" width="320" frameborder="0" height="240" scrolling="no"></iframe>
I have the GPS track, I plan to ride the full length of it next year but will have a chain saw with me for the trek. Guess you will have to come with to find out....
