PHX - Perry Mesa Bike and Hike - Ruins and Petroglyphs

I've been wanting to do this bike and hike thing for quite some time so I invited ADVRiders with like interest to join me.

A leisurely 9:00AM start was set to give the heavy party crowd a chance to participate.

HTM showed up with a new to him KTM 625 SXC. So sweet!! Too bad the battery was dead...



Nothing a rope can't fix.

All geared up and ready to go!



We didn't have to go far before the first mishap. HTM was trying to knock the new off that KTM.

The Agua Fria River was running!!!

Destination 1, Squaw Creek Ruins



Pottery sherds are EVERYWHERE!



Checking out the ruins.



This site is believed to contain nearly 200 rooms.



And affords great views of Squaw Creek below.

Apart from great views and abundant pottery sherds, this site contains an ORGY of petroglyphs!!!

Thouht we found the red deer but we wer wrong...



One of the clearest ones I saw...


Then the real Red deer and his little one...

And clearly there were some space man visits way back when...

A herd of antelope off in the distance was having a great New Year's day too!

There were two of these markers drilled into the rocks on the point. Maybe someone knows what they are for?

That's a survey marker. Typically set by government entities, they establish a network of points that help map the land using triangulation.
