Perks for tough jobs are necessary to keep those jobs filled. Hell, I'd be OK with waiving fees for military folks entirely.

You guys have it pretty good with the fees, though. Here in California, we just elected a super-majority of Democrats to state government, so they now have the power to implement anything they like. They are proposing to TRIPLE our vehicle fees. That will take me to about $350 for my 1996 Chevy K1500. The poor bastards with the big diesels are looking at $2,100 per year.

Four or Five years ago I went into the DMV to renew the plates on my boat trailer. They had expired during the winter when I am not using the boat so I hadn't noticed. I wonder what the fine is for expires or no plates. Hmmm. I am going to Montana this spring an will probably pick up a permanent plate for the trailer. Not worth 80 bucks a year for a 300 dollar trailer that sees 2000 miles a year use if that.
