205 for sure, but I sure don't mind. I stumbled upon that video a little while back and have been obsessing about that bike since... changed my whole direction of plans for a future project bike in fact... Cool as hell!
<img src="https://www.advrider.com/advrider-photobucket-images/images/g/greenieltd_hockies.jpg"> I got this at a swap-meet many years ago the guy i got it from swore up and down that it belonged to Steve McQueen and that he had given him the jacket, of course i have know way of knowing if this is true. either way it still a cool jacket i think from one of the forgotten So.Cal shops instrumental in desert racing.
well i feel like a big dope not having come across this thread earlier. i love the old sleds. they were pretty much on their way out as i started my racing in the desert. i was so fortunate to get to know charlie hockie and bill thorwaldson when i worked for richard and patricia thorwaldson in the late 80's. when those two would get together at the shop it was world class, pro level bench racing! charlie gave me a tip on how to get a good start which i used that weekend at B to V in 87. holeshotted the novice row and scared the hell outta myself when i found myself leading at the bomb. charlie laughed his ass of when i told him. i am so lucky to have made friends with charlie and bill and george walker. gone but not forgetten.
all those old triumphs and bsa desert sleds have similar handlebars, where can i find some for my airhead?
.commonly known as 'tiller bars', you might try some of the Brit parts places, or possibly Flanders still sells them. googgle-it
Well , since I live in Kentucky this isn't really a desert sled , though old magazine articles about them were my inspiration. "67 TR6R I bought it with bent forks and no title for $250 way back in 1978. I got my hands on some Redwing MX forks and some Koni shocks that were for a 250 Puch.Preston Petty fenders and a Kawasaki seat were added and the front wheel came from a Honda 305 Scrambler that someone gave me after it had gone under water in a Ky.River flood. The peanut tank was used to spare the stocker from damage and the handle bars are solid aluminum. The bike was a lot of work in the woods. too heavy and ponderous, but,hey I was out there. I beleive this last shot was getting it ready for someone to ride at a party. Yeah one of those "Hold my beer and Watch this "times. Playing in the snow. Snow sled ?
