yep i pushed that sucker right into the hole... any clue what i can do to get it out ? surely it can't roam around in there until it gets disintegrated
i can help you out. this happened to me as well, so i ordered the heavier duty plugs as mentioned in OVAD. i have an extra heavy duty one and 2 of the originals. Since i now have a 12gs, just let me know where to send you one and i'll mail one out on monday USPS. the original plugs suck, the bigger ones are much easier to handle and seem more substantial. pm me with your address.
Screwing around with that plug is why I use the "soda straw in spark plug hole" trick to find TDC. - Mark
Forget about it. Replace it soon as practical. Next time use needle and thread thru the center of said plug to keep ahold of it. The one inside will come out over the next couple of oil changes.
Screw all that, just line up the cam chain arrow pointing straight out, if the vlaves wiggle you got it, if they don't turn it 180 degrees. No need to ever remove the plug. The one on the bike, not the one in your... Jim
There's no oil between the engine/tranny (dry clutch) - it will be shredded by the spinning flywheel/clutch/pressure plate and coat your clutch with rubber bits. No worries .
For those that do want to remove the dang thing, it should be possible to pull the plastic cover to the starter, remove the starter, and fish around at the bottom of the clutch housing with a piece of wire with a small hook bent on the end. Chances are it's laying down at the bottom. After you've been riding a while, it probably has been ground up. Be sure to get your starter back on square and tight..otherwise problems like knocking teeth off the flywheel can occur. I replaced the flat soft plastic plug with the old school rubber gum drop one, and it is much less likely to get pushed through.
Where do you get those niffty feeler gauges? I have looked everywhere. I just have the blade with no handle attached.
Well, you can buy them from the Adventureworkshop website and pay about four times what they cost, or you can got to a parts store and ask for Wurth gauges 0.15 and 0.30.
it was the gum drop after the month of september pulling out bodies in new orleans i needed two weeks of the tahoe wilderness... i think i was still in a zen sleep state and pushed it in too hard w/ the awl speakin of... THANKS Y'ALL
got mine at AS Cycles in Roseville - www.ascycles.com http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=39076 http://www.ascycles.com/detail.aspx?ID=39077 now they go for $8.00 a set
Sounds like a lot of trouble, considering the plug isn't going to hurt anything. I'd buy another plug and forget about it. I always push the plug in with the handle of a big screwdriver so there is no chance of poking it through.
Scribbled on a tampon dispenser: These candy bars taste like cotton. Oh yeah, timing plugs.......never seen one.
thanks ! put the "man's plug" (why is still laughing...) in and figure i'll do the timing chain arrow from now on (thx JvB). BTW now that hte old plug has ground itself against my clutch plate: 1. she shifts easier 2. no hint of surging 3. better gas mileage 4. my helmet doesn't stink anymore if i'd only known, i would have dropped that baby in a LONG time ago !! thanks, bil
