Red those are good videos. A couple of questions if you will. What kind of tires are you running on the Klr and how do you stay warm?? I got chilly just watching.

I use Kenda K270 tires front and rear. Often I will run 1/2" #8 screws into the knobs for winter traction. You must have fresh rubber to do that- if the knobs aren't deep enuf you do run the risk of puncture. Spinning the tires will shoot the screws out behind you and running on pavement will wear them down. Pavement traction is acceptable and they don't work themselves in like a porcupine quill- if the rubber was deep enuf when you installed the screws, you shouldn't have a problem with them going through and holing the tube.

Understand, this is what I do; I am not recommending it, I have no idea if it is street legal where you ride. It works for me, YMMV

I also have chains for really deep snow or bad ice. I only use them as a last resort as there is very little clearance for them on the KLR and they slap the hell out of the front of the swingarm. They do work. Same disclaimers as above.

    Fear keeps me warm :-)

...and I layer, using synthetic or wool, no cotton. I had a Gerbing electric vest which I loved, but I finally wore it out after years of daily use during the winter season.

yeah, I sent it back and they said they fixed it but it doesn't get warm. It might be the controller, which isn't warrantied

I recently had the most enjoyable week`s riding of the previous twelve months when we had an unusual amount of snow here in the UK...even though I had to use my 'best' Ural while my workaday one was in bits.

I posted a small report and photos on here about it.

    Here`s a shortcut to it if you`re interested. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=539647

These things are great in the snow (BMW rig in Boston in the '80's). I, on the other hand, fared somewhat worse. It was cold. I now live in Austin.

And I expect that some of the new fancy stuff goes a long way toward ameliorating that cold: electric vests, Goretex, heated grips and seats, and electric systems to support them.

:nod I tried this last year, and come spring I found over 40 at the end of my driveway, where I'd spun the tire coming off the shoveled concrete pad onto the unplowed circle. That was a great Christmas day ride though (record snow last year)... and didn't suffer for loss of traction with a TKC 80 on the back, I might add . I got back from bombing around on the streets of Lacey, WA and counted the screws remaining... THREE. :lol3

...an' Red, I didn't think you got scared(?)!

I tried round head screws run from the inside out with nuts on the outside. Worked well. Need to tape a lot over the heads of the screws to help save tube.
One guy said he used those flat headed bolts that hold down a toilet and they did well....dunno he musta worked at a plumbing supply or something.
All disclaimers apply. If you try any of this stuff you are reponsible for the outcome. I sure ain't recomending it. :eek1 :eek1
