We tried to develop carbon-glass fibre tank protection. We tested it in Ukraine - Karpatian mountains - and I think - it works well. As you can see on attached pictures my KTM after 10 - 15 crashes - protectors are only scratched and tank or fuel valve is in perfect condition. You can see new one pieces too - it´s made from 2.5 mm (thickness) carbon and glass fibre (only surface is made from carbon) For sticking onto fuel tank, I used adhesive Zwaluv High Tack (Den Braven - Mamut glue). Price
of both protectors is 140$ and cost of shipment from Czech rep. to USA is 20$. If anybody wants it - pls send me P.M.

Nice but this needs to go in the vendors forum. chrisbarnes1 is your competition there, he's been turning out similar for a while. I asked the mods to move it.

As far as I know the ones from Chris Barnes (UK) are made in carbon and on request in aramid (aka kevlar). The latter would be a far superior material to use in this application - especially compared to fiberglass - due to it's abrasion resistance.

Personally I would go with that, and get the top layer in carbon to get the cool look as well.

Using of fiberglass or kevlar (aramid) is necessary, because only carbon is too breakable. It is ussualy combinated with some flexible material - kevlar (where low weight is needed) or some cheaper as glass or Diolen is. But for this usage is glass sufficient - but it would be made from aramid or Diolen too
