Need a copy of Garmin City Select Europe v8 or 9.
Riding from Venice to Istanbul. Have a 276c and would love to have all the help possible.
Would love to hear from riders in the area for possible meetup for coffee or whatever.

v8 is easy to find if you know where to look.

v9 and up is going to be a problem, they come with one (used to be two) unlock code that will work for one particular unit. So even if you had the DVD, put it in Mapquest etc you will not be able to transfer it to your Garmin GPS.

    Looking at V9 coverage now,

Serbia & Montenegro, Macedonis, Albania and Turkey are not covered (i.e. cannot be selected to transfer into the unit). Ditto for the southeast fringes of Greece.

My 276c will be taking its third trip across the pond on Friday and is all loaded up and ready to go :D

Get a copy of Garmin's "Worldmap" - it's not locked and has basemap level coverage for the world - no fine detail, but major roads are there.

Another alternative could be to get yourself a copy of Metroguide 9 Europe, should be available in the states for about 120$, and then you give these people http://www.geodude.nl/gps/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=18 another 6$ and you get the same functionality in your Metroguide as in City Navigator. Tried it out, and it apparently works good.

I never managed to hack the Garmin cityselect or navigator versions, ended up buying them for ridicoulous amounts of money...

That's no good if you don't have an unlock key but you might run it in mapsource.

I shall be travelling to Greece for the FIM rally with my trusted Garmin with Version 9 loaded

Does anyone know how good the coverage is and does anyone know whether its worth upgrading to the new 2008 version

    Many Thanks
