    It's that time, again :freaky
Summer is here in full force now, but in October, near the end of Summer,
...the days get shorter, our moods get longer,.....

We have an ADVRider gig going on help make the Summer last:
    The Apple Valley Rally
    ........October 3rd - 6th, 2013
For the last two years, I've called this thing the Hood River Upper Valley Rally.
But last year, Little Posum first coined it the Apple Valley Rally....and so it forever shall be :pope

Just like the last two years, my wife and I (and our two Hooligan Hounds) invite you all (and your dogs :D) to come invade our 5 acre place 16 miles South of Hood River. Beginning Thursday, October 3rd, and running through Sunday, October 6th, anyone who wants to join us can come ride mostly dirty bikes (clean bikes are OK, too) on Hood River and Wasco County and the Mt Hood National Forest's GREAT forested dual sport roads, several dirtbike OHV trails, and many sweet & long beautiful forest pavers, come back to camp to eat good food and drink good....whatever it is you drink :1drink, and then help to tell the day's stories by an evening campfire :norton

    Sound like fun?
    Then come join us......
If you are reading this on ADV, then YOU are invited !!
It's as simple as that, and plenty of room for all.

Post an "IN" so we can get an approximate head count for food and porta potties, but don't worry if you can't make it at the last minute, or even if you decide to come at the last minute.
Just come if you can, and enjoy yourselves; we're easy! Camp in our yard, in your Tent, Toy Haulers, RVs or whatever you have, or skip that stuff and just bag it inside plentiful covered and enclosed space to travel light.
    .....Then, wake up to this:

We feel that we are blessed enough to look out our window to see the Great Hood every morning, to ride 5 minutes out our Garage to enter the National Forests, ride 15-20 minutes to touch the edge of three different true Wilderness areas, and we get to ride all around them, in the midst of Oregon's great Cascade Mountain Range. So, we also feel like we hafta share this with you fuckers :freaky. We are much drier than Western Oregon and much greener than Eastern Oregon, and traditionally have fantastic Autumn weather all the way through to November. But, it gets cold at night, so bring warm stuff too, even when the forecasters say :flug

The Food Deal: Like past years, this will be a combination of Pot Luck for those that want to share, or let us feed all of you great food for any and all of you that would normally just eat a Mountain House when you camp. Please eat our plentiful food, breakfast and dinner, and just drop a few bucks in our jar to help us cover our costs, so we can do this again next year. Not too much, now,... last year you were all a bit too damned generous, so this year we are rewarding you with a BBQd PIG Roast for Sunday's Lunch, before you all leave for home. I'd do the Pig Roast Saturday, but I wanna RIDE all day Saturday, and it's too dang depressing when you all leave too early Sunday, so we wanna keep you all here just a bit longer; we'll be done by 1pm for plenty of time to get home. Or......take Monday off too, and you're welcome to stay another night if you wish.

The RIDE Deal: We have so many great places to ride here, even for paver lovers with Harleys or Sport bikes. But our area's specialty is that it is a freaking Dual Sport Heaven. Seemingly endless dirt-only two-track like Bennett Pass, Bonney Meadows and Grasshopper Rd, Mill Creek Ridge Rd, and even Clark's Mill Rd and Barlow Rd is all within an easy day's ride. We have 3 large OHV parks in the HR County two within 10 miles, and McCubbins Gulch OHV or Rock Creek OHV are just a 40 minute drive away. You want just good gravel or pavement? We have that too, and guidance to send you the right direction.

Here's some pics from last year's thread, starting just after the Rally:
    http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=817002&page=17

    So......let's RIDE !! :clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

    The Ride Schedule:

Thursday: Arrivals will keep me busy during the day, so I can point you to your own day rides,
...but I think an early evening Rough Riders Ride up to the Red Hill Guard Station is in order, just to get this party started :freaky

Friday: I will lead a longish and VERY scenic medium-difficulty Dual Sport ride up and over Bennett Pass, past Camp Windy and down Grasshopper Rd (these circle Badger Creek Wilderness), and the last part of the great Barlow Road over Smock Prairie and then into Wamic for gas, then we'll return on Clark's Mill Rd (Creek Crossing!) out of Tygh Valley and into the not-so-thriving-metropolis of Friend. This is a great series of dirt two-track that most anyone can likely do. It's full of babyheads to dodge, but without the steep hills that would make it more "technical". This route WILL NOT bore anybody on any bike; it's just as technical as you want it to be; ya just gotta ride faster!!

Saturday: I will lead a "Rough Riders" ride over Hood River's Middle Mountain and then up FS17 to Surveyor's Ridge and across some powerline roads to Ketchum Rd, down the nasty Hedges Grade to Mill Creek Rd, up the gnarly Suicide Grade (creek crossing!), and back over the old Mill Creek Lookout Rd to John's Mill Rd. This is more technical, and not for everyone. It can be considered Big Bike friendly, if you think it's a dirt bike and not an "Adventure Tourer" and know how to keep the "Gas On" :D.
LOTS of rocks (especially Hedges and Suicide Grades), lots loose stuff mixed with steep hills and dust.
But more importantly, lots of good bike work and serious FUN!

Sunday: Pig roasting day for me, so you all MUST stay until at least 1pm to help us eat it all.
I won't be riding this day, with pig-cooking duties.
But the run up to the old Red Hill Guard Station
...or the side-by-side maintained trek over Middle Mountain are a couple of short and fun rides to make you hungry for lunch

Half-Local ADVer Matloik (we still like him, even if a transplant :D)
...has offered to lead "dirty trail" rides in some of our plentiful OHV areas.
Here's a quote of his rides offer:

Mustangshelly, and hopefully a couple of other lady locals,
will lead Ladies' Rides Friday & Saturday, maybe on some of the same paths as us
.....but don't think it will be boring,...these ladies can RIDE :clap

For all those staying in camp (you're welcome to stay here while we are gone),
we'll make sure you have plenty to do also,...or....
.....this is simply just a GREAT place to hang out and do absolutely nothing all day long :nod

We will also supply a bunch of good Ranger District maps,
for those that wanna ride solo or in smaller groups.
I will outline many good routes that will not disappoint anyone,
...no matter what you ride or how you want to ride, whether rough riders or just lollygagging sightseers.
We'll have some GPX files for the Garmin geeks as well.

And then,...besides all the great riding,...we have an early gig going for those who like to.....work :puke2

Hell's Al Gal? and Gal's dog?

    Oh yeah, almost forgot.
The old beater Motorhome of ours, with comfy Queen-size matress, potty and small shower will be reserved to do "Camground 6" duty for MortimerSickle.

Right on!!! Great event last year, other than the truck remodeling that AJ did. I'm off three days that week for deer hunting already so count me in for a late Friday arrival. Possibly in the same hunting rig (Truck camper + Trailer).

    Sadly out :cry

We have a forest service lookout tower reserved that weekend, and it's way off in Seneca land.

We booked it late enough in the year thinking it wouldn't conflict with anything else. Thinking, never got me anywhere :rofl
