Above photo has the piece outlined to be able to see it better Dapolarbears answer does not count...he does have nice Ohlins though One of this boards ROCKET SCIENTISTS threw this idea at us and we improved it a bit. Anyone care to guess what it is and what it does?
GS epiglottis. Although I didn't think the GS glottis needed additional protection... (Can you tell it's been a long week?)
but the one I did goes on the top,(is even uglier) to isolate the air from the intercoller, I think it those help, but the seal is very critical. this one is very simple, let us know about the improvement,if any.
You are all Rocket Scientists ! It's not that ugly because you can not see it under the fender. It allegedly limits the air coming into the rider from under the fender. I need about 5 guys or girls (USA for now..sorry Aussies) that actually RIDE this time of year...preferrably where it is cold to tell us if it works. It is not going to make a huge difference if you do not have a decent shield, as if your bike is bare, this aint gonna help, but if you have something for protection now, this may help it. Send me a note if you want to try it out....riders only, we expect feedback on this board. I do not care if it is snowing, hailing and icing....get the gerbings on...no wimps need apply. If you do not make the cut....do not fret. Fish and Baldy will make sure you all have an Adventure Rider deal or they will take away my spamming privledges. sales@ceebaileys.com
nachtflug, You may find this hard to believe but it is 85 degrees out here at 4:45 PM and I am sitting in my office typing with the A/C blasting.
I understand that this thing may protect the rider, but will it not increase lift on the front wheel and make the bike unstable at speed? There is a lot of air coming through that gap.
When I stood on my head it looked like Casper, arms raised, at a firing range. Is it a hidden radar detector mounting plate? With a little reshaping, it might also be a steering stop protector, and could make the Touratech yellow item obsolete. Tool shelf, maybe? Sorry, the coffee is waaaay too strong this morning. GSLarry
I have one of those on my Airhead: http://www.pbase.com/lauren/miscellaneous I have noticed not real difference in bike handling, but there is a difference in the amount of air that comes up through the fairing. The original inventor markets it as a device to keep road debris and water from coming up through the fairing and founling up all the gear in there - not mention getting junk on the rider. It seems to work for that purpose.
I've been looking up in there since day one - thinking of creative ways to build a draft stop. Most of my thoughts involve some sort of elastic/neoprene material that'd actually attach to the fork tubes and seal the area. Even better would be a pre-made rubber accordion-like something-or-other similar to older RSs. This widget is certainly a start, Airtire. Build it and I'll buy one. Even if it's not super-effective, it'll give me a good base to work with. Lemme know...
I'm with you on that one. My Father-in-Law's R 80 RT has some kind of attraption like that, that sucker has negative airpressure behind the screen... No buffeting, though, so I've been planning something similar myself. Now, if my NASDAQ listed company could only fire my ass, I'd have some time on my hands...
