Hi Ron,
Did a run of about 450 km on my 2008 TDM 900 this weekend. Did a fillup at 320 kms so that I could give you a guide.

At between 55 mph and 70 mph, 2 up (about 300 lbs) with a rear sack (about 15 lbs) I got 54 mpg, based on the US (as apposed to the Imperial) gallon.

bikez.com states the tank capacity as <TABLE border=1 cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=3 width=580 align=left><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top width="25%">Fuel capacity:</TD><TD>20.00 litres (5.28 gallons)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

so without going stupid, I reckon you could squeeze 285 miles out of it before it was bone dry.

My butt gets sore well before that, and I've yet to find a way to smoke a cigarette at 70 mph, so I am happy to stop a bit more frequently and give it a drink.

Here's a pic of the TDM in action picking up the New York Dirty Little Tag this past Wednesday. I did a fly/buy/ride ride from San Jose, CA back to the Adirondacks (NY) about 2 months ago. Really happy with the bike and it's manners on and off road. It feels similar to my old 12GS and seems easier to maneuver off road and slide/brake down dirt/rock/scree slopes.

It has a Bags-Connection QL mount from the po and I'd like to get a large tank bag for it (the magnetic is one the po kindly gave me for the ride home). Is anyone with this vintage TDM using a Bags-Connection set up like this and running the large Trial QL tank bag? Twisted throttle only lists the smaller ones for this model/year. Thanks, Rich

Wow Rich, you rode from San Jose to Ny ,It must have been an awesome adventure. I always wanted to ride the Great Smoky Mountains and up the East Coast. I'm also in the Bay Area. What route did you take?

For this CC trip, I had 10 days to work with and I wanted to re-experience the Sierras, visit a friend in Albq, and tour some of the Colorado Rockies which Id not yet done on a bike. Cheers, Rich

It is amazing really realize that people with TDM throughout the world are concerned about the same issues: how to put the front tire, how to make TDM more off-road?
These questions and led me to this forum.
This winter (and we have the temperature of -2) I was planning to upgrade TDM to Dual-sport motorcycle, set the fork upside-down, the wheel radius, and 19 others. But financial problems probably will not do it.
