Real nice thread, thanks for all the pics. Now I'm sad that I spent the season working and not on my bike!!

Hope I see you out there on the roads.

I agree- I try to get out as much as I can, but there's vast amounts of stuff to ride and see...

Much of this thread is made up of photos over about the last 2-3 years- it likely looks like I get out more than I do....

I did however, get out early this morning before a few hours at work-

Antelope Island, out northwest of the greater Salt Lake area, sticks out into the big salty/stinky lake...

[IMG][/IMG]
The causeway, a long 4 mile straight out to the island

[IMG][/IMG]
A new twist- LOTS of birds this am, but this was a BIG flock of young geese

[IMG][/IMG]
Along some of the "beach"

[IMG][/IMG]
The other side of the island, from Buffalo Point

[IMG][/IMG]
Found a few of the buffalo herd (these things are big, and tasty if you get the chance :nod )

[IMG][/IMG]
Lastly, the Utah Army Ranger memorial sits on the north end of the island- Thanks guys :bow

Down the road a few miles (Hwy 191) from Moab, you'll find Wilson Arch just on the east side of the road...So climbed up in it

[IMG][/IMG]
Wilson arch, with a bad self portrait angle (my cheeks are not chubby) but at least I was smiling in this one (Lobster girl :wave )

A few more miles and you run into this oddity--

[IMG][/IMG]
The "Hole in the Rock" home/diner/tourist stop. A very dilligent fellow, back in the 50's began to drill, blast, dig and clear out a shallow cave into a residence-- was also a diner for a time. His stuffed donkey still resides there, in the living room. THe place is like 4800 sq ft :huh lots of touristy stuff for sale in the gift shops.

While I love 2 lane highways, I (like most I'd guess) have a general adversion to Interstate freeway stuff (but is sometimes nessessary).

One exception is the stretch of I-70 from Moab/Green River to Richfield...
I'll admit these are not the best photo quality-- all were taken on the move

[IMG][/IMG]
Get to weave around through this...

[IMG][/IMG]
Now right..

[IMG][/IMG]
Across the valley to the next set

[IMG][/IMG]
getting al little closer (at somewhat better than "freeway speeds" :D)-- a good example of the Great Basin "Upthrust" that created so much color and terrain

Yeah that stretch of I-70 is neat, except when going east and towing a giant 5th wheel and don't have an exhaust brake. Then it's just very slow as you try not to get going too fast and fry your brakes. :)

Tonight, a few more from the lower entrance in Canyonlands--

[IMG][/IMG]
Newspaper Rock, outside of the entrance of Canyonlands proper-- the ancients left "messages" --

[IMG][/IMG]
Down a bit further on the wall

[IMG][/IMG]
Now entering the park

Thanks
No question that the 110 miles of Hwy 12 between Bryce/Torrey is something special. Several great dirt roads/paths through the area as well that are somewhat epic. Then, at lunchtime, the Boulder Grill serves very tasty burgers :thumbup

Signal, I want to thank you for this thread and the great photos. :clap
The times I've ridden in Utah are among the highlights of my time as a rider. That Escalante-Boulder section of Hwy 12 pops up in my dreams sometimes...

Now that I've got a DR650, I want to go try out the Burr trail and the Devil's Backbone...inspriation!

Got any photos of Goblin Valley?

You're welcome and thanks.....

Sadly, no pics (digital at least) of Goblin Valley...long story- camera had issues the day I was last there a couple years ago.

I'd suggest watching Galaxy Quest again :lol3 (the rock planet scene)

Hollow Mountain? Cool. It doesn't have a dusty, old, poorly-stuffed donkey with a caved in face in there like that Hole in the Rock Museum near Moab does it? Cool pics though. I miss the area.

No animals in the store, but some of the food seemed a bit dusty. I opted for a Snickers/Mountain Dew combo I recall :lol3 .

Did you get a picture of the stuffed Saint Bernards Head hanging inside?
