This is BOB we are talking about, hell he is lucky we even allow him to be in the same hemisphere as us let alone park in the same campground.

But note he drives a diesel and there is always the chance he will give you that instead of gas, once again this is BOB we are talking about...

From PSR campground camp, how far is it to the hot springs via the northern pass? Is that doable in a long wheel base P/U?

Right now it seems as though we do not have a good way of getting a bike out from the hot springs area. I know of one short wheel based vehicle. I hate the idea of sending only one in to get somebody. One is better than none, but late night it is better to have several vehicles.

Yes, it's do-able. You have to go out 190 to 136 and north to the 395 to Big Pine, east on Hwy 168 and then south on Saline Valley Road. I'm guessing aproximately 175-200 miles. I would also guess about 12-16 hours round trip. North Pass is not a quick commute to the springs.

A tow-strap with a bike is more realistic I think, get them to where a truck can get to. I carry a 18' x 1-1/2" nylon strap.

Based on my trip out there in NOV.
A truck can get as far as Hunter Mountain.

After that the washouts would make it nearly impossible for the truck to get through unless it has a winch and anchors to drive into the ground.

Even then not a good idea.

Seems like the only way a truck can get to the warm springs is to come in over the north pass.

Not a good option in my opinion but very doable.

I have not been to Hunter-Teakettle or the Racetrack so , YES, need a guide. This is a ride I would love to finally do.

Went in just after New Years and found the highway department took away the road closed sign and put up "high clearance 4wd" sign at north pass turnoff, no problems with my Subaru making it in 2 hours each way - Farmer_Fred[/URL]

Went out N Pass on 3/15/13. Pass is clear. A few wash-outs but not much of a challenge. Did it in a built Jeep in 1 hr and 45 min. from the springs to the pavement. Encountered an SUV with street tires that had a flat and all he had was a "donut" spare. Temp was over 100 on the valley floor. Looks like there may be some nasty weather this week. Be prepared for wind. The previous week saw gusts up to 65 mph.

I agree with the post above. I drove out the N Pass yesturday. (3-17) Wash board sucks but a Sedan COULD do it, with a CAREFULL driver.

2 hours from pavement to Sailene Springs with a 4x4 van. (no 4x required)

I am bringing out the vouchers for an Omni-Cruise. I would bring out the actual product, but Brian is sold out currently. I cant even bring out any to sell.
