I want to install an oil cooler, but can't find anything specifically for an xl, a few threads that i checked out use old coolers designed for the xl...

Could anyone tell me if i could use something like this?

Check out the xr650l and xr 600 threads. I want to say the xr400 came with an oil cooler but don't remember. I would think that any cooler that you can plumb in and mount decently would work though. Just make sure it won't vibrate or be knocked off. That would suck in the middle of nowhere.

You wont regret it......adventures to come.:norton

Cheers, Thats what i was hoping..Ill be searching for something that i might be able to use.
Just going off from my test rides, it runs super hot and im struggling to start it up again when its even slightly warm... Im sure thats partly my fault, ive got a bit of learning to get the knack for kicking it over.

That doesn't sound normal at all to me. I flog my xr in Hawaii heat every day both on and off road and never have heat issues. With the stock carb it always started fist or second kick hot or cold. With my new fcr that I am still dialing in jetting on its a little harder to start hot. Anyone have any ideas why his bike would run so hot and be hard starting when hot? Maybe jetting?

I bought some carbs from ebay and put in 118 on the primary jet, and a 115 on the other, (they came with 115s)
1985 carbs are 120 stock but i dont have 120s

the air fuel is set on 2 turns out stock.

I just put in new spark plugs so i'll have to check if its looking lean.. will that affect hot starts?

I had to get another number when i got back to the US last month, i just ran out credit though because was hoping to leave within a month but the side trip to NY helped me put the departure date off yet again...
I'll need to buy credit and i'll send you a msg with my new number.
