I live in Panama near the Costa Rica border. The riding on the CR side is a lot better, but it is a hassle getting a TVIP for each trip, plus CR requires you to be out of CR for 90 days before you can get a new 90 day permit. So I thought, why not register the bike there too? Then I would just need to drive to the frontier, swap the plates, and be on my way? Has anybody tried this, or even thought about it? What would duty and registration cost in CR?

    hmmmm
import duty is approx 50% of black book value (original price) depending on year. There is a website to look it up.
Marchamo y RTV is about $140 per year.

Boy, that sure takes the fun out of my idea! 50% duty is scandalous!! I should have stayed in Idaho, where I had the entire country to roam without crossing borders.

    Apparently so.

What were you complaining about, again? Oh yeah, you wanted to work the system illegally to your own benefit. Got it.

How can you say I wanted to work the system illegally, when I was willing to PAY for a LEGAL registration??
