With a little bit of hard work you can get her a gussied up as this old lady - BTW, her name is Miss Tracy
Yeah been looking at off-road pegs on ebay....$18 set....has to be junk. Farkle list so far already installed by previous owner: Hwy Pegs Rad Guard Auxiliary Power outlets (2) switched! Tank bag To be installed: The Doohickey... LED Aux lights.... ( have them already) Pannier racks of some kind the cheaper the better.... Seahorse or Ammo Can Panniers. Progressive springs Milk Crate No not going that route.
Best bang for the buck deal on footpegs, where you know what you are getting, is to get the post '96 DR650 units. They are a perfect fit for the KLR brackets. And inexpensive. Beware of the cheaper clones of Happy Trail's units. Tim made a slight alteration to his design. The alteration made a major improvement to the ruggedness. I bought mine right as Tim was making the changing over, got one side with the old design, the other had the new. Every time I had a major getoff on the old design side it bent out of square. Eventually gave Tim a call asking if he recommended adding any gusseting. When we discovered the mismatched units I got a new set under "extended" warranty. You can tell the difference by looking at the back bracket running from the rack to the back of the luggage rack. If it is welded to the top of luggage rack it is the older, weak design. If it comes off the back of the rack it is the new design. You can see the new design in this picture, the back bracket is coming off the back of the rack. The old design had the bracket welded in front of the bend on top.
Ya I also have now caught the KLR bug(dam another minimalist vehicle for me)I've done a bunch of long trips on a Ninja250,and will continue to take long trips on my DR350,I think the Ninja is out the door today to a new owner,so the DR is gonna get some miles untill I can gather enough freedom chips to get a KLR,as my friends often say to me "here you go again"I am looking forward to the bigger bike.
You will love it, we all do, well 99.9% of us do....lol There is always some who think it's not a good bike for some reason or other....but it is all fixable or modded or adjusted to make it fit you best. Plus it will carry you wherever you ask it to in comfort.
