Of course, BMW would do both, a la the Beak and a front fender! I like the looks of the low fender, given enough clearance for mud and crap, but since it's a metal fender, I'd be concerned about a stick or something coming up and tweaking it. Dunno, really, both look good, as does the rest of the rear end.
Progress! Woohoo! I kinda was thinking the same thing as C9 - combo. Low shorty at the pivot to protect the rear suspension, then hang a high one to let the mud 'n shit fly. I think a full low fender will be a bummer if you actually intend to ride it in the slop. If not, then the low definitely looks the look, ifyaknowwhatImean.
Your reasons for mounting it low are compelling, but I think in most cases people would make a judgement based on aesthetics. I think I would decide based on how I saw myself using the bike once complete. Mounting the mudguard low is by no means unusual but it not so widely associated with the 'scrambler' look.
Glad you're back on it Fubar. I vote the same, some sort of abbreviated hugger design with clearance Clarence. If you ever do happen to go out and scrambler around, your nice work could become a mess. I know, the wrapped low rear fender is trendy, but... Practicality wins out
thinkin the lower, but w/ tad more clearance.. like the low, cause you could use the space under rack for batt box, electrix?? ( gotta give the guy a break on build time.. he's doin great work.. check the pipe hanger jewelry )
