On the tails when I crash I have about 30 seconds to pick up the bike otherwise fuel starts coming out of the top tank vent. Flapendectomy is done. Not a big deal but Im just not confortable with it. Plus if I want to lay the bike down to open the clutch cover or starter cover without losing much oil, I have to take the tanks off! First of all is this normal? I thought of putting an in-line shut off valves on each tank breather. Something like this: let me know your thoughts
What? No one can state the obvious when you 'go down' on your 950? Since you can't ride erect - to prevent the lost of precious fluids - you could reinstall the 'emissions' equipment.
If the vent hose is routed right it should not drop fuel ,, but the lids on my tanks leak enough to make up for it... :) Dave
Flapendectomy was done by previous owner. I guess I have to check his work based on what you are saying. No fuel leak from the lids.
if you have the bike on the sidestand you can take the clutch cover off- at that angle the oil stays in the engine. It's that way on quite a few motorcycles doesn't answer your gas weeping problem...
Thx for the clutch cover tip. So if bike is laying flat on its side, the should not be any gas leak, correct?
My 950 has a bad seal on the left cap. Got the seal on order. does not look like a hard fix... (But then I've thought that before... ) Dave

The carb will leak out the bowl's contents when its over on the side. Not much can be done to stop it.
Right, but once the bowls are empty it stops. I'm talking about fuel just pouring out of the top vent none stop. On an old thread someone said he connected the vents with a T and ran a line to the top of head lights. I'd live find a check valve that stops fluids but let's air in and out.
The flaps in the caps are 'supposed' to stop that sort of leak... They often don't. Hooping the vent lines up in the fairing is an idea, many of us did that when we tore off the catch can. I ran two lines in this way, both looped up inside and behind the headlight but then ran both down the frame to terminate under the motor. Thinking being, I don't want to see gas exiting anywhere but under my motor! You may could adapt one of the vacuum valves that originally performed this purpose if you like. They originally served to cut off the vent and catch can when the motor cut off. Most everyone has thrown them in a box in the garage...or the trash by now. If you still have one, its an easy mod.
