I have a few questions about Rickman Brothers frames.

#1 - I keep seeing two different tail sections on the Metisse scramblers. Are those different models of frames, or different options?

#2 - Was the Petite Metisse actually smaller, or was that just the nickname for the small two stroke motocross and scrambles bikes?

#3 - Was there a BSA B50 road race frame, like they did for the Metisse?

The round one is the most common, maybe the square one was some update....round was out, corners were in. The Petite was a smaller different frame, I'm not sure if the Bultaco and Montesa 250 frame is different from the 125 Zundapp, but I have a Zundapp Petite, and it seems a big hole to put a 125 engine into. I don't have an engine, I'll be fitting whatever I stumble across.

I have seen single and twin down tubes on the two stroke Metisse frames. I am tempted to try to buy one of the twin down tube frames, and see if I can get the Triumph 250 engine I am building to fit.

For the record, I hate the square tail section. :puke1

Anyone tried to put a Ducati narrow case single in a petite frame?

My Rickman Montesa had a single downtube, the Rickman Zundapp had twin downtubes. emti

The Bultaco was also twin down tubes. I believe those three are the only smokers that were offered for the Petite Metisse as a "production" model.

I have a Rickman Six Days Replica with the 125 Zundapp motor. I don't think the Triumph 250 motor will fit-it's too tall. I do think a 500 Triumph motor will, though. I just need the time and ambition to try it.

Old Post, I Know. Rounded Fender is a Mk III version. Square is a Mk4 Version. Personally, I prefer the Mk 111.

The name for the little Rickmans with the 125cc Zundapp & 100cc Hodaka motors was "Micro-Metisse", not Petite Metisse. The 250cc Rickman with the Montessa motor was not considered to be a Micro Metisse.

You are right. I believe the Bultaco Rickman was called Petite.

You would be correct. Apparently the Bultaco Petite Metisse was the first complete bike they sold. The Rickman Bros. allowed Bultaco to copy their frame and Bultaco put out the Pursang Metisse Mk1, the first of the Pursang line. According to Tom White, the Rickman Petite Metisse was not supposed to be sold outside the UK, however 20 something bike were shipped to the USA disassembled.
