It was a morning meant for a ride. I went to McD's for breakfast and after my morning cup of senior coffee I turned east on hwy 78 into the mountains. Light traffic so I was able to maintain a brisk pace. At Santa Ysabel (hwy 78/79) I went to the "chairs" to see if any of the local bmw riders were hanging out at their favorite spot. No bmw riders so I turned up on hwy 79 to the closed Santa Ysabel casino. I used to enjoy going to this casino, and it always seemed busy but the tribe claims that they lost $50million, which I find hard to believe. I turned west on hwy 76 past the ever shrinking Lake Henshaw. Very little water remins, but the area below Mt. Palomar is still very scenic. The Pauma Valley is also very scenic. At Valley Center Rd., S6, I turned west for home. Took this road through Escondido to my home. About 100 sMiles. A great way to start the day! https://dave-mishalof.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/July-4th/42687862_hz8JbX
Sharp bike! I love having the road to myself. Would love to partake in any motorcycle ride in CA where it didn't feel like chaos.
Nice photo's Dave. You should've place the pics in your report! I know your area very well and you were on some of my favorite riding roads. I guess I haven't been up the hill to San Ysabel Casino in a while, did not know it closed. Some great views from their property! Couple of other loops I hit is Mesa Grande Rd just south of Lake Henshaw, 78 between Ramona and Santa Ysabel is always fun to me, and just west of Ramona is Highland Valley Rd. Thanks for sharing your ride.
Onnna my favorite rides too, except I come in from 79S or sometimes Hwy 76. Kendalls Cafe in Borrego Springs makes a nice brekky too, adds about 50 most excellent miles to that ride but since the casino went bust...
Your ride sounds like fun once the temps in the desert fall about 20 degrees. I would be interested to join you on this ride in the Fall
