I just completed the installation of the BMW Hand Protectors (large) on my wife's F650GS (twin.) Same steps for F800GS as they're the exact same part.

Not a particularly tough job, but I hope this helps someone someday.

The whole gallery is here: http://gallery.me.com/matt.the.ogre#100010

    Selected pictures included here:

Two pieces -- the "bow" (metal tube) and large hand protector (plastic)

Here's both sides -- one before attachment (right) and one after (left)

You might want to consider adding the extensions, it's like a $40 add on kit from BMW, you have to drill two holes into the original handguards to mount them. I could tell the difference yesterday evening when it started to get colder.

Also, in the pics you can see the SW-Motech mirror extenders, they are cheap and definitely worthwhile.

The BMW guards appear to be rugged as hell. probably as strong as the bars, but I wished I had opted for the TT's. I don't know how you could install a Throttlemiester or the Kaoko throttle lock and these also don't work with the techmounts stuff, I'm still fiddling with that. :bluduh

Thanks for the advice. We opted for just the large protectors to start, figuring it would be easy to add the spoilers afterwards.

Based on your experience I think the spoilers will be coming sooner than later! :D

I really like the mirror extenders. Are those universal for BMW mirrors? I have an R1200GS and K1200R that could really use those.

    Thanks again for the advice.

A bit of cutting and bending but better wind protection for the cold

Awesome, it looks like it might be a good replacement for my techmount problem.
