Offroading this past weekend, I dropped the GS in a rocky area and gouged up the left valve cover. When I finally picked the bike up, oil was dribbling on the ground but I couldn't tell from where. The dribble stopped quickly and I rode the bike home, about 175 miles. I assumed cracked valve cover but I inspected the cover tonight and can't see anything like a crack or deep enough gouge. Bike is down maybe a half quart after all this.

Any suggestions on where/what I should look at? Thanks.

take the cover off and examaine the bosses around the valve cover bolts. I had one develop a small leak there once. The cone shaped sealing washer was enough to seal the crack. I replaced the cover anyways.

Any chance the oil just leaked out from the fill hole while the bike was resting on it's side?

Don't think so. Guess I'll clean it up, top off the oil and ride it a bit to see if I can spot an origination point. Thanks.
