Anyone used the Rox Pro-Offset Block Riser on the F658? 1" of rise and 1" of pull-back, simple, works with either F800 1 1/8" or the F658 7/8" bars (different versions). Seems to be what I'm looking for with my F658GS. I will probably need a longer brake line (17", F800 depot) and rerouting of the clutch cable.
I have a set on an 800GS. They make it much more comfortable riding, especially when standing. The only thing I don't like about them is if your bike decides to take a nap they will be knocked out of adjustment so the handle bars are at an angle. You have to loosen everything up to get them square again. I would buy a solid riser if I were to buy a riser again.
Are you using these in the "back" position to move the bars closer to you or in the position that moves them straight up? I read through another thread on risers and I thought I saw someone complain that they would hit the ignition key protector. I need to move the bars back on my wife's F650GS twin.
I have them up and back towards me.Probably just a little bit more back than up. That makes it a little harder to reach the key, but no big deal. It makes it so I can stand and the bars are right below me and I can reach them without bending over.
I had the standard Rox risers and hated them but now have the offset block style the OP posted and they have been great. No twisting or misalignment like the regular Rox risers. I didn't need longer cables or hoses with them. Mine are turned ahead moving the bars away from me.
I bought my Rox Pro-Offset risers (3R-B12POE) from Amazon and the extended brake line from F800Depot.com.
Awesome. Will be curious if they touch the key shield / immobilizer antenna when the bars are on full lock. Edit: Just went and looked at the bike. The little plastic lip that is in front of the key and immobilizer antenna looks like it will either hit the riser at full lock or be very snug. One site noted that it will contact on the F800GS, so I imagine the F658 will be similar.
You should be able to adjust them so they clear. I didn't have to lengthen the brake line on my 800, but the line is tight. Also you can get them at Motorcycle Superstore.
I just got the Rox Pro-Offset risers (3R-B12POE) in the mail today and installed them on the wife's F650GS, and they do hit the plastic guard in front of the key at full lock. With the small key guard removed from the cover (via two small torx screws underneath) everything clears just fine. There's four small holes left in the cover now. The other issue is the bottom half of the stock handle bar clamps are not even from front to back creating a gap at the rear when the Pro-Offsets are mounted to them. I will need to find a shim the right thickness to make up this distance so the rear bolt has a proper grip. Just as it sits though my 5' wife likes the more relaxed and closer position. It even felt better for me and I'm 6'1". For now it goes back together as it was until I get the right thickness shim.
I'm not sure about your description, but there should be very little gap unless your handlebars are a different diameter than the risers are made for. You should equalize any gap. Tighten both a little at a time keeping the gap the same until it is tight.
I'd have to see a picture to be sure, so don't do something silly on my account and then have a wreck... but if you are talking about a small gap between the top half of the semi-circular clamp and the bottom half it is supposed to be that way.... similar to the way there is an air-gap in the clamps for the triple-tree clamp on the front forks. After loosely assembling all the parts - tighten the front screws (as viewed in the forward direction of travel) first, then the rear screws. The gap in the back on my bike is roughly the thickness of two pennies I can post a picture tomorrow if I'm not making sense.... The manual has a warning that says: "Failure to tighten the fasteners of the handlebar clamping blocks in the correct sequence could enable the handlebars to work loose when the motorcycle is being ridden."
The gap is not in the top and bottom clamps of the Rox Offsets, it's where the Rox Offsets mount to the lower half of the BMW clamps. The BMW clamps are uneven from front to back. I'll try and post up a pic or two after work this evening.
Showing the gap from the Rox Offsets to the stock BMW lower clamps. I filled this space with a couple M10 zinc washers from the local hardware store. The stainless ones they had were too thin. I measured the gap at 0.115" and the two zinc washers together measured 0.118". I figured that would be fine with a little crush allowance. Showing the space between the Rox Offsets and the key. The key guard is removed. I may cover the openings with some 'carbon fiber' looking tap cut to shape or something similar if this bothers the wife at all. This is the closest it gets at full lock with the key off. With the key in the on position there is more space. I think the key guard would have fit if there was just maybe another 1/8" of room. This also shows the clutch cable moved from the metal loop to the left of the front fork. I hope this makes more sense now and can help others in deciding if the Rox Offsets are for them. The top triple clamp on the F700GS looks identical to my wife's F650GS. The 800s top triple clamp is definitely different to accomodate the larger fork tubes. I don't know if the 800 also allows a little more space for the Rox Offsets so that they won't hit the key guard, it was too close to call just eyeballing it at the dealer. The wife is definitely pleased with the more relaxed reach to the bars now. (She's using a low seat that we'll be seeing about having narrowed a bit later.) Though I would have preferred not to have to add the washers as spacers, it is still a very sturdy mounting. The price is right too. And any block type riser that uses the bottom half of the BMW bar mounts as a mounting point is going to have this issue with the gap unless they are machined specifically to match.
First of all thanks for sharing. Photos and everything, this was very good. But would be even better if someone with this set up on a 800 could show some photos as well. This key guard issue sucks.
SS: Yes thanks for sharing! Those to issues (shims & interference with the key guard) are things I would have expected Rox to either address before putting the product in production or at least warned about in their literature.... :huh Oh, and thanks for reminding me... I need to re-route my clutch cable as well
Those are entirely different than the ones for my 800. They have a cylinder shape, like the handlebars, that bolt where the handlebars use to bolt. Then the handlebars bolt on to the riser. That lets you rotate the bars in any combination of up and back. Looking at the fit on yours I have to wonder if those are the correct ones.
Rox makes both styles, you can use either one. The block risers are easier to align and don't get knocked out of position when you drop the bike. The "traditional" risers have infinite adjustability and probably would not require removal of the key guard. Many thanks for the photos.
