I am thinking about purchasing a 990 Adventure. My two closest KTM Service departments will be: Manchester Honda in Manchester,CT Motofit in Danbury,CT Any recommendations as to who has the better service dept ? Any likes , dislikes , warnings ??? George in Bristol,CT
I too have a 990, I will be going to Manchester. I haven't hit any service milestones yet...The owner is a Club member(Ramblers Motorcycle club) and rides with many members. He also owns a 990.
motofit has a really bad service dept rep. stear clear... as far as sales, they sell bikes very cheap. but, there have been a bunch of horror stories regarding service there. just an fyi.
Manchester Honda has been in business for at least 40 years. I have never had to use a service dept for my KTM's, but their parts accessory guys are very knowledgeable and they have a good stock of parts. (for the dirt bikes at least)
You'd best learn to service the LC8 yourself. There is only one KTM service tech I knew who I would ever let touch mine and he was in Boise Idaho and the poor guy died. That guy knew his stuff and took pride. Be careful with that engine and service techs. Real careful. Again, do it yourself and know it's done and done correctly would be my advise.
What if he does it himself but he is a hack? :eek1 He strips out the nuts and bolts, overtorques stuff, uses loctite high strength on his spark plugs?
Cliff's in Norfolk Ma. , Nice guys small shop knowledgeable. Also no complaints about Manchester either.
+1 for Manchester Honda. Pro Tip: Use their website (hondaktm.com) to order parts from, and check the "in store pick up" option to save yourself about 20% of the over-the-counter cost on any part. I bought my 450 there but couldn't come to an agreement on the 2008 990 they had so I got mine in North Hampton MA. I'd recommend either Manchester or North Hampton.
Several of us on this forum got our 990s from Edelmann's but that is a trip for people in southern or eastern CT. It's not actually in "Troy", the shop sits in Grafton but is only road-accessible from Pittstown. On a dirt road and right near a powerline ROW too!
Manchester Honda apparently doesn't sell the KTM street line anymore... but they're negotiating with KTM to get them back for 2014. I was told by one of the cool salesmen that KTM required them to carry an unreasonable amount of the RC8's, which were taking up real estate and not really selling. It's too bad too, I'm really considering a new 690 enduro. I'd love to buy from MH, I've been going there for my whole riding career and have nothing but great things to say about them. Got a competetive quote from Motofit but with reviews in this thread I think I'm going to stay clear.
