Hey Mark,
I'm in Fl, a little more heat and humidity than you. I'm usually pretty good with my old Darien set, but it's time for replacement. Any experience with a Darien comparison wise? I've been considering the Roadcrafter lite, but this suit looks good. I'm still kind of torn regarding the water repellency / water proofing discussion. I have the impression this suit will vent better and do fine in our semi normal afternoon showers.Has anyone used a wash in waterproofing on this suit, like Nikwax? I have no problem with adding the liner or donning my FroggTogs if it's going to be an all day rain.

If you have no problem with Frogg Togs, then this a more versatile option for sure !

How easy (or hard) is it to do alterations to a Lombard - specifically the legs?

My body's a misfit, short legs, long arms - a nominal L lower body and 2XL upper body. I'd like to shorten the legs of a 2XL, but don't want to go into alterations hell.

not very easy to alter the suit if you dont go for a custom suit.
the zipper on the legs runs from the neck down to the bottom of the suit - so u r going to mess with that. It wont be easy to replace that zipper in an alterations shop.

order a trial size from and tell us the changes u want. or just send us your measurements. alterations is not going to be an option.

My concern with the new suits is that the price is heading up a bit. If it gets much higher, it'll be pit of the range where I can afford new gear instead of used.

Price seems to be getting rather close to some options from the aero brand

the price has only increased for the CS - which is now full Cordura with Sas-Tec armor (including back protector).
The prices are well below anything with comparable specs..

Is the waterproof layer a breathable membrane, GoreTex or similar?

I was looking forward to your new Commute suit. Am I seeing the right price at 549.00? 150 more than your Lombard suit? That's a big increase over the old Commute suit isn't it? I like your products but that is steep for me, back to Olympia gear I suppose.

when compared to the Lombard - the price increase is due to the upgrade in materials and armor .

You always have the option of the Lombard though if you want to stick to that price point.

Is there no venting in the commute suit?

there are no vents on the commute suit - to make it more weatherproof.

The Lombard is definitely not waterproof. I've done the seam seal and Nikwax route and it still leaks. I just don the Frogg Toggs and couldn't be a happier camper. I've ridden in those Florida showers and yes without a top layer of rain gear you will have some leaking. My suit leaks primarily on the arms and the crotch(yuk)!
Sorry cant comment on the Aerostich gear as I have never owned it

thats what we recommend as well. cant go wrong with Togs :)
