That's actually a great initiative from Verhoeven :clap I'd rather have his actual gear than just this though :D

Why would KTM swap engines today?

First of all we all know that Alien(ktm) technology and manufacturing is better than the rest of the field.

Second and more importantly, the race is not even 1/2 over when you consider Fridays lack of a stage.

If the ktm team wants to ensure not having to replace a second time several days from now, it is a no brainer to wait a few more days and make the call then. It only takes an hour or two, it can easily be done at any time. It really would not make sense to replace today for the sole reason of having a rest day and being close to the middle of the race.

I think that the bikes that do replace engines today must be bored and not know what to do with the extra time. If a team wants to ensure making it to the finish on a second engine, changing it a few days from now would make much more sense than prematurely swapping a perfectly good engine a little less than 1/2 way through.

Deadly99 reported that he saw him riding by in the bivuac. For all we know, he made it.

But we still don't know if he really ended the stage ... ...Manuel Lucchese to a fault stays put in the middle of the second control. This morning With a delay of 5 hours starts from the middle of the Chilean desert for classified with penalty for delay. Currently no news on the position of the 23 Husaberg rider ... Happy ending for a true old style Dakar Story: after some falling Manuel slept aside his bike to came back in the morning. - Lieto fine per una storia in stile Dakar; dopo alcune cadute notturne Manuel Lucchese ha dormito accanto alla moto ed è ripartito all'alba...

Bonjour Stagehand. He's been sighted around the bivouac this morning. Not too many details yet (he's probably trying to catch up on sleep) but he's in anyway.

If the sherco was in the Verhoeven "orange babies" package, the bid would have been much less... :rofl

Hi mxmum, have you tried using twitter to contact anyone in the bivouac? I'll try on your behalf if you like (but I've not had much luck getting replies from people out there so far). Are you Sam's mum? I'm sure someone would reply if I said I was asking on behalf of Sam's mum. Alternatively I'm sure PackMule or one of the other guys who are better connected than me would ask on your behalf. Hth.

Very glad to hear Manuel in in and safe. :clap Thanks for the information Cuttle! :thumb

I'm a little confused about what happened, who brought an engine and where and how it works with zee rules. Bet it's a good story.

I really hope he can continue in the race, quite a scrapper in true Dakar style!
