Impressions from Romania, the road of kings (Transalpina or DN67C) This road is located in the Parang Mountains group, souther Carpathians. Absolutely worth a visit! Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. My younger son went on a mission trip to Moldova (right next to Romania), but alas this old geezer can't seem to go anywhere exotic. LOL Thanks for sharing the ride with us and especially the great pictures.
Gonna ask my fellow about that thing. The videos have a nice quality, too. If I get them I'll post them. Gets difficult to find more really good pics in that whole bunch... I like these 2 here, they describe life "on the road" somehow :) In the southern carpathians there are loads a creek crossings. The guy on the following pic was a shepard his sheeps where our neighbours :) Really nice guy, he gave us some firewoods when we arrived in the night. Also he stayed at the campfire and even without communication he drank some beer with us and left when we went to our tents. No idea what this sign means, but the animals look like bears. That day we hoped bears a lazy, I mean really lazy. On that pic you can see the "fence"
The sign says: "This forest is private property" "Wild game is a national treasure, Let us protect it!" I wouldn't worry much about bears, they are few and far between nowadays. However, they are brown and will not hesitate to wrestle if threatened. Good report and pics. Romania has lots of good off road terrain, there's good reason for races like http://www.redbullromaniacs.com/. I'm not so crazy about the highways, they're rather dangerous than fun. Cheers
Bears in Romania are easy to deal with. Most of them are curious and if you make big noise they will run away. The problem will be a mother bear with cubs around. But the chance to see a mother bear are the same with winning the lottery. I know this because I grew up in a mountain village in Romania and in school they teaches us how to blow a whistle or clap our hands loud. Usually Carpathian bears are shy and they avoid human contact. But there is one rule: If you camp, hide all food remains (dig a hole and put them there ...). Bears are big gourmands and they will follow the smell.
