Being the weather here in NJ is so cold I'm begining to get some ideas together for a fall trip to Colorado. My wife and I have been asked if we'd like to join some friends on a one week trip to Colorado While this will not be a complete week of riding (friends don't ride). I'd like to get a couple bikes for 3 days while we're there. So, with all the above being said....any suggestions? Did some look-ups on the web and found Tourbikes.com out of Denver. (Currently I'm riding 1150GS and wife is on an 1150R so we'd prefer to be on similar bikes if possible). Don't have an exact destination set out yet since we've only just started the process. I've done a couple 2 week mountainbike trips in the past hopping from town to town......just not sure what the "best" spot would be for the motorcycle days? 3 Day rentals in the fall (mid to late Sept.)?
That's a good time of the year, barring early snows on the passes. Lots of choices. Hard to go wrong as long as your stay in the mountains. One suggestion: I-70 and CO58 to Golden; then 93 to 46 (Golden Gate Canyon); then 72 to Nederland; then 72 and 7 to Estes Park is always nice. Stay there, then take 34 (Trail Ridge Road, thru RM NP) to Grand Lake and Granby. After that, maybe up to to Steamboat Springs via one of two ways, both very nice. Coming back via 14 and Ft. Collins is very pretty, apart from the unpleasantness of ending the trip on I-25. Heading South to I-70 via 131 or 40 are also great, and a bit faster. Have fun.
I rented from Bill last Fall for a trip from Vegas back to Boulder, CO. Bill is a good guy and the bikes were in super condition.
I've only seen advertisements for out of Denver (tourbikes and others). Being I'll be limited on time, it would be nice to find a rental already in the mountains somewhere....I'd even be happy riding around on a dual sport!
Tourbikes.com is about the only outfit in town that rents anything other than Harley. Bill is a nice guy, we met with him to promote our tour business and to refer rentals. He has quite the selection of well maintained bikes. http://tourbikes.com http://www.windwalkermotorcycletours.com
I rented a R1150 GS from Tourbikes.com a couple of summers ago and rode 2000 miles around the Colorado mountains with a quick sprint to Moab Utah. The bike performed well and I had no problems. In my opinion Rt. 550 from Durango to Ouray (the "Million Dollar Highway") is simply stunning and a must. Just do it early before the motorhomes plug up the road. Rt. 145 from Cortez to Telluride and beyond is spectacular as well. Also Rt. 82 over Independence Pass (if not closed) into Aspen is absolutely amazing. Dave
I only have one bike, but I could rent it out for 3 days. 95 1100 GS. If your interested, I'd make ya a good deal. Like maybe a tire and an oil change.
I'm still pretty far off the date for planning the details, but "wow" personal rentals! What about Motouris? I've seen their site....out of Denver too. Are there mileage restrictions on the bikes from Tourbikes?
I just started a new BMW rental company in Boulder Colorado. We rent GS bikes and we deliver to the airport. We are the cheapest outfit in town with the newest(and best in my opinion) bikes in the state. Give us a shout if you need a rental! www.houseofmotorrad.com
I ride a Honda XR650L in E Africa and have ridden a few Harleys in the US. Anyone have suggestions specific to in-town rentals for Colorado Springs (other than Eagle Rider)? I'd love a soft-tail, but I'm open to a GS. I'll be coming through Aug 19. I'm tempted to trailer a friends KLR with me up there from Texas... just depends on availability and costs to rent. I'll be headed up to Estes Park later and wouldn't mind a bike there as well.
We deliver bikes to the springs. Give us a call or drop us a line. Ben House of Motorrad 7204660047 rentals@houseofmotorrad.com
I'm reviving this thread to ask if anyone knows of a place to rent smaller dual sports near Colorado Springs. My girlfriend and I are staying with her mother until Tuesday, and we'd like to take a spin up into the hills on a pair of 450cc or smaller dual sports. I've searched this site and done my best with google, but couldn't find anything other than big road machines and 800cc+ adventure bikes. Thanks for the help!
I'd be suprised if there's any riding close to the Springs with the snow and cold... Anyway, try these guys: http://www.rockymtnrides.com/index.asp Post up what you find
I think most of the rental businesses are shut down for the winter. I am looking to add a couple of DR 650s for next year but do not have them yet. Ron
