You're not here to hate on harleys? Then your brain and your fingers are in complete disconnect. Now who is incoherent?
Same place they are now... selling overpriced, expensive, heavy, poorly built motorcycles to people with money... a lot of money. I will still be tootling down the road on my old evo I built myself laughing at them. Nothing will change.
Begging for a Road King as opposed to a MTS1200? How in the hell can the two bikes so diametrically opposite even be mentioned in the same sentence? Road King, 800lbs, 4.375" stroke, pressed & glued 48lb crank assembly, 24" beam width across the primary case, swing arm attached to a rubber-mounted engine, 3" of rear suspension travel, paint-shaker motor-enough to blur your vision if you grip the bars to tight. Yeah, I'm begging for all of this. But they make it work. cheers, melby
In ten years, the new law requiring all new vehicles to be non combustion will already have been announced and probably almost put into effect. And to boot, they will probably tax the hell out of combustion powered vehicle owners, or just tax the hell out of gas and diesel. Yes, the day is coming where we will all be riding electric bikes. Or, paying thr the teeth to ride gas powered bikes. Harley knows this and wants to get a name in the electric ring so that they don't get left in the dust. Plus, when battery technology improves just a little more, alot of new riders will enter the market an buy electric bikes. Tesla is building charging stations as fast as they can. This is the biggest hurdle, (besides the ancient power grid on the east coast). These charging stations can charge a Zero motorcycle in a half hour/45 minutes currently. That is fuel/lunch times during a day trip. Harley may not be so cool when you take vibrating bikes and loud pipes out of the equasion. Harley is also aware of this. They are smartly jumping into the game now to find a way to make their electric bikes cool enough to not loose their flock of bearded idiots when the new laws come. It will be interesting to watch. Harley has a ton of money to innovate with, but they are also built by the union, who suck money faster than a cheap whore. It will be interesting to see who buys Zero and Brammo, once the battery technology improves to allow 200 miles between recharging. Zero and Brammo (and others) have such a head start in the EV moto industry that they will surely be purchased. Heck, same with Tesla.
You have a Ness air filter. Who's the big sucker it or you? How about an Evo with an S&S 4 3/4" stroker, Delkron cases, 3 13/16" Axtell cylinders and a Super E. I haven't figured out which cam to use.
Rode one, felt great. I know it's expensive, notice how I didn't comment on price? Tune-ups are too rich for my blood as well. So how about this...a Vstrom/Tiger/GS/etc...comfortable and fun to twist the throttle. Rode a roadking, felt like a massive tank that wanted to shaking itself apart when at a stop light...no thanks. Different strokes for different folks, just saying when you want to stop riding a gixxer because of back problems there are more options than your roadking.
There are plenty of options, loved my GS, and love the Tiger I'm selling when I get home as well. Just happen to love my wife a lot more, and want her to enjoy riding with me. That means having a comfortable pillion area that supports her back. Turns out there are only a few bikes that fit that need, the RGU turned out to be the best compromise for both of us. Thought I'd keep another bike for solo fun, but.... hustling the pig in the twisties is a hoot... the cruise/stereo/ABS are excellent, and used a lot in Florida. Speeding tickets, while possible, aren't nearly as probable. Not because the bike is too slow, I'm just not in as big a hurry to get off of it as I have been with other bikes... No wheelie tickets...... Have always loved most things with two wheels. Love watching the bikes race at Daytona, and appreciate the talent it takes to race motorcycles. But have never cared to own sport bikes. Being uncomfortable while having to ride at less than half of the motorcycle's potential most of the time is miserable to me. Had more fun riding my 125 Vino WFO everywhere. Obviously your mileage varies, Hell, mine used to as well. Ten years ago I wouldn't piss on a Harley if it was on fire, now I own one. Hope Harley is thriving in ten years, and hope all of the other manufacturers are thriving as well. The more the merrier.
Probably it. Have you used the big boys cam comparoter tool? It's pretty useful. I'm considering sn 89" stroker or the axtell 85" kit. Not sure what I want to do.
Hey I didn't bring up the comparison. I was merely replying to someone else who brought the ducati into the conversation. I've owned both. I still own the harley. I think that at least explains where I stand. Some folks ride the wheels off their multistrada. You couldn't give me another one. Just my personal experience. Nothing more.
Harley Davidson will buy a foreign motorcycle company and move its headquarters offshore in a tax inversion deal. They will continue to build engines in the USA for the American market so that they can claim that their bikes are American-made, even though they're only assembled here from mostly foreign parts. They will continue to be profitable due to offshore sales and the domestic sale of branded merchandise... and future Harley owners won't really care.
Bikes are like penises. Everyone has one, but if you go around making fun of each other's, that makes you gay by my book. Go out and ride, enjoy yourselves. I have 2 Buells, a Harley, and 5 Honda's FLAME ON
Obviously you haven't ridden one since 2009, and very likely since 1999. Two distinctive years of improved vibration isolation changes. I have a 2011 Road King, and other than a slight "rumble" at idle, it is perfectly smooth at speed. Maybe you've ridden one with the isolators removed? Or a 1947 model?:eek1 In all seriousness: Have you ever actually ridden a HD? Bob
