yep Note the hemiarthoplasty of the shoulder was done in 2004 (low sided DRZ400S off road, humeral head broken off and in 5 pieces), this was my "modification" to it after crashing on the Sovereign Singletrack in Moab, Apr 2010 (note broken humerus at end of SS rod:eek1). It actually healed up OK (relatively speaking) without further surgery. I gave up doing anything more than gravel roads though.
Don't know if I would consider it heavy metal, but I have a small piece about 1 inch by 1/2 an inch, holding my jaw together on my left side. Don't know how to put a pic up. Need to find the xray, it was back in 93.
I guess so. Two orthos seem to think it looks OK, but ya from a carpenters perspective looks pretty amateurish. Like, do we have any 1" screws? No but we have 1 1/2". Ok those will do.
My doctor told me when I asked about the same thing is so that the screws have a better purchase on the bone. Since the middle is filled with not-so anchorish marrow, they need to get both sides so that the screw doesnt rip or twist out, and unfortunatley that requires screw tips poking out the other side. Doesn't feel good when tendons need to slide over them.
I have a plate and nine screws in the left tibia. Sustained a Tibia Plateau fracture in April of 03. And yes it was a Motorcycle injury.
A woman at work got yanked off her feet by her dog and broke an ankle. After the bone healed, she had them go back in to take the metal out.
I'd like to get mine out, but the cost is prohibitive. Not to mention the heal time after that again and no guarantee that anything will get any better
Another member checking in. Joined the club compliments of a left turning cage in Vermont in Nov. 2010. Couple of before pics for the full effect. CT Scan :eek1 Now the After pics Elbow Shoulder You get extra credit if you noticed the bone graft. Add 7 broken ribs, broke scapula, and right wrist which got a screw put in it this past November. Hardware normally stays in unless you need it out. I had all the hardware in my elbow removed except for one plate back in January. Russ Tucson .
Ouch, ouch, ouch. I am seeing an ortho about my hardware. Starting to give me pain, at least I think that is what is causing it. Amazing really what these guys can do.
They actually measure the depth of each hole they drill in the bone before choosing a screw that is the proper length. They like to get them so the threads engage both walls of the bone securely. They actually have to be very meticulous about drilling and hand tapping each hole for screw placement.. If they are not careful the screws can loosen up over time. Usually scar tissue completely covers the ends of the screws and the resulting surface is very smooth. I've seen bones that were plated years earlier and you can hardly tell where the tips of the screws are sometimes.
Amazingly, I'm NOT a member! Not that I haven't tried though. Broken both hands a couple different times. Broken toes on several occasions. Tib/Fib once right elbow once left side ribs 3x left collarbone 2x left scapula 2x Even more amazingly...................nothing hurts. Ever! Chris
lucky bastard... I guess :) broke my left ankle 25 years ago and that thing hurts all the time. Broke my shoulder when I was in my early teens...took at least 10 years for it to stop aching all the time. the ribs and wrist (same wrist 2 times) dont hurt at all.
