Hello, a question for the LC4 gurus: my 2000 LC4 is weeping oill through the sight glass right side of the motor. Got the new part to replace the old. What would you use to seal the rubber seal? Parmatex gasket maker, silicone, Loctite? Thanks for responses.
The factory used Loctite 648 retaining compound, a green liquid. I went through that same problem on my 2003 the first year I had it. I installed the new seal and glass with the loctite, only to have it leak again a few months later. I ended up fixing it permanently with a specially machined, threaded insert on the inside of the hole, and a large allen headed screw from a Honda Transalp screwed into it from the outside. It has worked great, and if I need to see the timing marks, I just remove the Transalp screw.
i just used a little bit of heat/oil resistant silicone. since i did it hasnt weeped a drop in over 2 yrs. laters, laramie
