    On the contrary.
The rack indeed is flat with the passenger seat, yet there is still the under-platform (if you remove the top rack) that is flat with the rear seat removed.

Also what is the problem KEEPING the seat on if it helps? It's not that it weights that much nor that it raises luggage CoG that much.
To be honest, in my experience, when loading something on the rear, the limited "give" of the seat pudding both keeps what I carry more stable (as it is pushed in a bit) and safer (is like an extra shock absorber) and less vibrations to go to the luggage OR back to the rear frame FROM the luggage.

I see no reason (technical) to redesign the switch cluster. After dismantling the cluster and repairing one of the internal switches on my bike I found that the necessary changes needed to fix the problems so many have experienced is a simple one, however it has to be made in its injection tooling.

For the switch manufacturer (OEM supplier ) I think its a simple solution of increasing the gap between the outer switch body and the internal working "piston" which is the actual moving part.

In fact, I believe the "fix" was already made. My switch cluster was exchanged less than a week ago and its working smoothly. I will report as time goes by.

Yup, more weight, higher center of gravity. Or in other words, a clear step back from the previous model. I'll add in less secure as well.

As I said, the rack looks removable.
I don't see any of the other things you say either.

I have previous model, I would prefer to agree with you, but I can't.

I like to remove the passenger seat and just run with the rack because it makes me look like a rugged world traveler who has no time for trifling things like women when I pull into the local Starbucks.

When should the 2014 hit the dealers? I never like buying the first production run and with the changes announced I think I'm glad that I held off.

In 2014, nobody knows for sure.
Waiting means missing out on the experience, that will never change, we can all wait forever and never ride :D

As this seems to go along with BMW history of updates etc. (are they robots or what?) the updated LC should hit the streets in the first 3 months of 2014.

    Fixed.
Yet, I am also glad I couldn't buy the first year model. Esp. the steering dumper thing seems like a must. Also curious about that optional upgrade (?) of ABS+ASC...

Took me 3 years to get the first 12GS (I'd say I got "version 1.5" just before the first face lift). Looks I'll follow the same pattern.

    Press Release
BMW Motorrad facelift measures for the model year 2014.

SEE POST #9874 ON PAGE 659

Munich. A number of facelift measures will be integrated in the BMW Motorrad program for the model year 2014. The models can be ordered in the new configuration from all BMW Motorrad dealerships as of August 2013.

This only says when 2014 model year bikes can be ordered not when they will be in showrooms...

However, it seems to me that it shouldn't take so long (over 4 months )

We'll wait and see, ok? :)
I am rather sure BMW will follow the schedule I've seen it follow the last 10 years at least.

I have a bike, it's not like I'm walking. I can afford to wait for the standard first year bugs to get worked out. Plus, it's going to be a couple of months before I'm able to convince my wife that I need a new bike.

I have a 2011 GSA and was interested in the LC for these tough Texas/OK/NM/AZ HOT summers. Was told the GSA's are hitting their showroom in January.

Funny enough just back today from a 6,500 mile trip from Texas to Labrador and back. Only ran into heating in Boston stuck in traffic, temp. was 90 and humid....
