I have a chance to buy a really clean 06 with 3500 miles on it. The only mod is the bike has been lowered. The seller is asking $3900. The bike runs real good and I did not feel any carburetor problems. Is this a good year.? Is finding parts a problem? Is it a good price? Is there anything I should know? Thanks for your time!
Thanks for the reply Bewana. Maybe I should have titled this would you buy? I have received several private messages that have been discouraging. Parts availability and starting problems mentioned over at cafe husky are quickly lowering the value of this bike.
Great bike(s)! I have NEVER had a "starting problem" with my '06 (regret selling), sold with 16,000 miles and running/riding great. I did a timing chain at 6000 miles (couple hundred in parts and tools, 1 day of labor), and would have kept right on replacing the timing chain if/when worn...the bike is so good at everything else, it's worth it. Other than some modest wear parts that every dirt bike uses up, it was a complete pleasure to own and ride. Wide ratio 6spd with very torquey/powerful engine, good suspension, great brakes, weight is manageable for this size, good charging system, tanks/seats/accessories available...it's what every KLRDRXR wishes it could be when it grows up Plus '06 is the faster yellow/blue model If you don't want it, please forward the seller's info to me
Parts availability is not an issue. Halls husqvarna has everything you will ever need available to your door in a few days and great service
Yeah. Valve train wears fast. Cam chain wears fast, get a manual tensioner from APE. Clutch basket bushing wears fast. Clutch basket will fail if not updated with good parts, PM IndyUnlimited , he has a permanent cure. I think the multitude of clutch cable snappage that I had would have been cured by the above fix. Maybe. The airbox is complete garbage. The subframe and subsubframe are junk, don't carry weight, it will fail. CS splines tend to strip more than other bikes. Get Dirt Tricks Ironman sprockets front/rear for worry free riding. Rear wheel bearings suck, three bearing design doesn't work well. Upper engine mount has crappy hardware, upgrade to grade 8 with nylocks. Chain slap roller will go awol on you. Head light gets put to shame by candles. Charging system seems to overcharge, high output headlight pulling some wattage seemed to cure mine. Dash is a pile of junk, cover it up with a good GPS so you don't notice that it doesn't work most of the time. Crank thud by 20,000 miles... I sold it, had a great 18 months riding that bike.
So I am on a road trip from eastern South Dakota to Vernon, BC, Canada. In Kalispell, Montana I see a Ktm-Yamaha sign and think maybe they have a used Ktm 690 I can demo. Instead I find a very clean low millage 2006 Husky 610. So I test road it and thought the DR650 and the F650 could go. So then any time I am not driving I am on advrider reading. If you start at the beginning of the 610 thread in 2006 it is a love fest and then a thousand pages in are stories confirming everything Larryboy said. So here it is www.penco adventures.com and the phone is 406 755 6229. The bike is seen in there used inventory. Thanks everybody for your replies and time.
