Whale watching Gulf of St. Lawrence

I'm in! Once we've settled, I'll be happy to input waypoints and routes into Basecamp. Gives me something to do while the snow melts...

My riding buddy from around here in Michigan is on a tighter schedule--so we are thinking of blasting through to Montreal on the superslab. For me, I would rather avoid the interstate and enjoy the small towns.

The plan is to get to Tadoussac on Saturday evening, spend riding in the area on Sunday and Monday, and depart back for home on Tuesday.

Most likely I will be on my Burgman 650 but may also consider my KLR650.

Here are a couple sample routes. One is scenic (11-12 hrs riding per day), the other is slab (10/8hrs). The nice thing about both days is that you can do pick how much of each route you do.

In Ontario, Highway 401 (slab) pretty much follows Hwy 2 (scenic) once you pass Toronto and it's very easy to switch from one to the other.

In Quebec, past Montreal 138 (scenic) follows 40 (slab).

It really is a preliminary route, and I'll update as I work my way through it but should give you an idea of the kind of hours you're looking at. Either way you are doing about 430 miles a day. Only a couple days, but 430 could easily feel like 660 if you're on the stock seat.

Great thread- i need a getaway and was thinking a closer to home (time constraint) ride. This region was on my mind and this thread is full of great ideas! My travel time is late June..

In round figures you're looking at a two thousand mile ride to the Saguenay from Flint and return. If you only have a week off it might be a bit tight if you want to do any amount of sight seeing. If the weather doesn't co-operate you can add even more time to your venture. I was living on the Gaspésie in the early '70's and it started to snow when I was mowing the lawn in late June. Be prepared.

My riding buddy from here is a very fast rider whose goals are to get to The Fjord Route as quickly as possible. I wish we could be more leisure riding. I am not into blasting through the journey to get to the destination.

you could always take the backroads and meet him there in a few hours

From Saguenay to Tadoussac, the road on the East side of the Saguenay is a great motorcycle road. Not much traffic, nice curves, great scenery and a salmon river. If you have time, stop in Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, a superb village. http://www.ste-rosedunord.qc.ca/fr/page/attraits_touristiques/

Here is a good way to avoid Montréal traffic and get to Autoroute 40 on the north side of the St-Laurence. The short ferry ride is very nice. Hope I can join you for part of the ride.

St Simeon is a beautiful little town. You can watch the belugas swim up the St lawrence from the hotel balcony

We are hoping to spend a few hours seeing the sites in Quebec City.
Are there any buildings or areas or must sees? I know this is not enough time but just need to get a flavor. Any special foods that have to be tried?
